Urine of Animals and Their Dung
10 Aḥadīth

1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ أَنَّهُمَا قَالاَ لاَ تَغْسِلْ ثَوْبَكَ مِنْ بَوْلِ شَيْ‏ءٍ يُؤْكَلُ لَحْمُهُ.


1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Zurarah who has said the following: “The two Imam (a.s), have said, ‘It is not necessary for you to wash your clothes because of urine of the edible animals.’”

2ـ حَمَّادٌ عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنْ أَلْبَانِ الإِبِلِ وَالْغَنَمِ وَالْبَقَرِ وَأَبْوَالِهَا وَلُحُومِهَا فَقَالَ لاَ تَوَضَّأْ مِنْهُ إِنْ أَصَابَكَ مِنْهُ شَيْ‏ءٌ أَوْ ثَوْباً لَكَ فَلاَ تَغْسِلْهُ إِلاَّ أَنْ تَتَنَظَّفَ قَالَ وَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ أَبْوَالِ الدَّوَابِّ وَالْبِغَالِ وَالْحَمِيرِ فَقَالَ اغْسِلْهُ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَعْلَمْ مَكَانَهُ فَاغْسِلِ الثَّوْبَ كُلَّهُ وَإِنْ شَكَكْتَ فَانْضَحْهُ.


2. Hammad has narrated from Hariz from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s), about the milk of camels, sheep and cows and their urine and their meat. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must not take Wudu’ with the water which is mixed with any of such items. You do not need to wash if your clothes come in contact with such items unless it is for removing stains.’ He (the narrator) said that I then asked about the urine of animals, such as mules and donkeys. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must wash it clean but if you do not know the polluted area, wash all of the clothes, and if you have doubts then just pour water to wash it clean.’”

3ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) اغْسِلْ ثَوْبَكَ مِنْ أَبْوَالِ مَا لاَ يُؤْكَلُ لَحْمُهُ.


3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s), has said, ‘Wash your clothes because of the urine of inedible animals.’”

4ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ أَعْيَنَ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا (عَلَيْهِما الْسَّلام) فِي أَبْوَالِ الدَّوَابِّ تُصِيبُ الثَّوْبَ فَكَرِهَهُ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ أَ لَيْسَ لُحُومُهَا حَلاَلاً قَالَ بَلَى وَلَكِنْ لَيْسَ مِمَّا جَعَلَهُ الله لِلأكْلِ.


4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Khalid from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Urwah from Bukayr ibn ’A‘yan from Zurarah who has said the following: “One of the two Imam, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, about the urine of edible animals that pollutes clothes, expressed dislike. I said, ‘It is from an edible animal.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is true but Allah has not made it for eating.’”

5ـ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) مَا تَقُولُ فِي أَبْوَالِ الدَّوَابِّ وَأَرْوَاثِهَا قَالَ أَمَّا أَبْوَالُهَا فَاغْسِلْ إِنْ أَصَابَكَ وَأَمَّا أَرْوَاثُهَا فَهِيَ أَكْثَرُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ.


5. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from abu Maryam who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s), ‘What do you say about the urine of animals and their dung?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Because of their urine you must wash and their dung is more than that.’”

6ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْبَرْقِيِّ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ لاَ بَأْسَ بِرَوْثِ الْحَمِيرِ وَاغْسِلْ أَبْوَالَهَا.


6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Barqiy from Aban from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s), has said, ‘Dung of donkeys is not harmful but you must wash clean their urine.’”

7ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنْ مَالِكٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَمَّا يَخْرُجُ مِنْ مَنْخِرِ الدَّابَّةِ يُصِيبُنِي قَالَ لاَ بَأْسَ بِهِ.


7. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Sinan from ibn Muskan from Malik al- Juhaniy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s), about things that come out of the nostrils of animals. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful.’”

8ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ إِنْ أَصَابَ الثَّوْبَ شَيْ‏ءٌ مِنْ بَوْلِ السِّنَّوْرِ فَلاَ يَصْلُحُ الصَّلاَةُ فِيهِ حَتَّى تَغْسِلَهُ.


8. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s), has said, ‘It is not proper to perform Salah (prayer) with clothes that have come in contact with the urine of cat.’”

9ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ جَمِيلِ بْنِ دَرَّاجٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ كُلُّ شَيْ‏ءٍ يَطِيرُ فَلاَ بَأْسَ بِبَوْلِهِ وَخُرْئِهِ.


9. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ’Abd Allah ibn af-Mughirah from Jamil ibn Darraj from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s), has said, ‘Urine and droppings of the things that fly are not harmful.”’

10ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ أَبِي الأعَزِّ النَّخَّاسِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) إِنِّي أُعَالِجُ الدَّوَابَّ فَرُبَّمَا خَرَجْتُ بِاللَّيْلِ وَقَدْ بَالَتْ وَرَاثَتْ فَيَضْرِبُ أَحَدُهَا بِرِجْلِهِ أَوْ يَدِهِ فَيَنْضِحُ عَلَى ثِيَابِي فَأُصْبِحُ فَأَرَى أَثَرَهُ فِيهِ فَقَالَ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ شَيْ‏ءٌ.


10. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Ali ibn al-Hakam from abu al-‘Aziz al-Nakhkhas who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s), ‘I deal with animals. Some times I go out during the night, and animals may have urinated and dunged and they spread it with their legs which pollutes my clothes; and in the morning I find the marks.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You are not required to do anything.’”
