12 Aḥadīth
Ḥadīth 1

1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ جَمِيعاً عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ الْجُنُبُ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ وَيَشْرَبَ غَسَلَ يَدَهُ وَتَمَضْمَضَ وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَأَكَلَ وَشَرِبَ.

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father and Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan all from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Zurarah who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘If one after experiencing sexual relation likes to eat or drink, one must wash one’s hand, rinse one’s mouth, wash one’s face, then eat and drink.’”

Ḥadīth 2

2ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الْجُنُبِ يَأْكُلُ وَيَشْرَبُ وَيَقْرَأُ قَالَ نَعَمْ يَأْكُلُ وَيَشْرَبُ وَيَقْرَأُ وَيَذْكُرُ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَا شَاءَ.

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of one who after sexual relation eats, drinks or reads. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, one can eat, drink, read and speak of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, as much as one likes.’”

Ḥadīth 3

3ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنْ جَمِيلِ بْنِ دَرَّاجٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ لِلْجُنُبِ أَنْ يَمْشِيَ فِي الْمَسَاجِدِ كُلِّهَا وَلاَ يَجْلِسُ فِيهَا إِلاَّ الْمَسْجِدَ الْحَرَامَ وَمَسْجِدَ الرَّسُولِ (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه).

3. Ali ibn Muhammad and Muhammad ibn al-Hassan have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ibn abu Nasr from Jamil ibn Darraj who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is permissible for one after experiencing sexual relation to walk in all kinds of Masjid but he must not sit in them. This does not apply to Masjid al- Haram and Masjid of the Messenger of Allah.’”

Ḥadīth 4

4ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ جَمِيلٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الْجُنُبِ يَجْلِسُ فِي الْمَسَاجِدِ قَالَ لاَ وَلَكِنْ يَمُرُّ فِيهَا كُلِّهَا إِلاَّ الْمَسْجِدَ الْحَرَامَ وَمَسْجِدَ الرَّسُولِ (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه).

4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Jamil who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about one’s sitting in Masjid after experiencing sexual relation. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, it is not permissible but one can pass through all kinds of Masjid except Masjid al-Haram and Masjid of the Messenger of Allah.’”

Ḥadīth 5

5ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ الْمُخْتَارِ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَمَّنْ قَرَأَ فِي الْمُصْحَفِ وَهُوَ عَلَى غَيْرِ وُضُوءٍ قَالَ لاَ بَأْسَ وَلاَ يَمَسَّ الْكِتَابَ.

5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Husayn ibn al-Mukhtar from abu Basir who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about one who reads from a copy of al-Mushaf (the book) without Wudu’. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful, but one must not touch the book in such condition.’”

Ḥadīth 6

6ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ بَحْرٍ عَنْ حَرِيزٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) الْجُنُبُ يَدَّهِنُ ثُمَّ يَغْتَسِلُ قَالَ لاَ.

6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from ‘Abd Allah ibn Bahr from Hariz who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘Can one after experiencing sexual relation, rub oil, then take Ghusl (bath). He (the Imam) said, ‘No, (it is not permissible).”’

Ḥadīth 7

7ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ أَبِي مَحْمُودٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِلرِّضَا (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) الرَّجُلُ يُجْنِبُ فَيُصِيبُ جَسَدَهُ وَرَأْسَهُ الْخَلُوقُ وَالطِّيبُ وَالشَّيْ‏ءُ اللَّكِدُ مِثْلُ عِلْكِ الرُّومِ وَالطَّرَارِ وَمَا أَشْبَهَهُ فَيَغْتَسِلُ فَإِذَا فَرَغَ وَجَدَ شَيْئاً قَدْ بَقِيَ فِي جَسَدِهِ مِنْ أَثَرِ الْخَلُوقِ وَالطِّيبِ وَغَيْرِهِ قَالَ لاَ بَأْسَ.

7. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ibrahim ibn abu Mahmud who has said the following: “I once asked al-Rida (a.s.), ‘Is it permissible for one after experiencing sexual relation to come in contact with perfume, oils or such things as chewing-gum or freshener, then take Ghusl (bath)? What happens if such one afterwards finds pieces left on one’s body or marks of rubbing oil or perfumes and so on?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful.’”

Ḥadīth 8

8ـ أَبُو دَاوُدَ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الْجُنُبِ وَالْحَائِضِ يَتَنَاوَلاَنِ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْمَتَاعَ يَكُونُ فِيهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَلَكِنْ لاَ يَضَعَانِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ شَيْئاً.

8. Abu Dawud has narrated from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Fadalah ibn Ayyub from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about one, who experiencing sexual relation or Hayd (menses), picks up something from Masjid. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is permissible but they must not leave something in Masjid.”’

Ḥadīth 9

9ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَمِيلَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الأوَّلِ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ لاَ بَأْسَ أَنْ يَخْتَضِبَ الْجُنُبُ وَيُجْنِبَ الْمُخْتَضِبُ وَيَطَّلِيَ بِالنُّورَةِ. وَرُوِيَ أَيْضاً أَنَّ الْمُخْتَضِبَ لاَ يُجْنِبُ حَتَّى يَأْخُذَ الْخِضَابُ وَأَمَّا فِي أَوَّلِ الْخِضَابِ فَلاَ.

9. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr from abu Jamilah who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Awwal (a.s.), has said, ‘It is permissible for one who has experienced sexual relation to apply dye to one’s hairs and one who has already applied dye to one’s hair to experience sexual relation or apply lime.’”

Ḥadīth 10

10ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَخِيهِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ زُرْعَةَ عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يُجْنِبُ ثُمَّ يُرِيدُ النَّوْمَ قَالَ إِنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يَتَوَضَّأَ فَلْيَفْعَلْ وَالْغُسْلُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ وَأَفْضَلُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَإِنْ هُوَ نَامَ وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ وَلَمْ يَغْتَسِلْ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ شَيْ‏ءٌ إِنْ شَاءَ الله تَعَالَى.

10. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from his brother al-Hassan from Zur’ah, from Sanaa ‘ah who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam) about a man who experiences sexual relation and wants to sleep. He (the Imam) said, ‘If he likes he can take Wudu’. However, Ghusl (bath) is more desirable to me and I prefer it; and it is better than that, however, if he has gone to sleep without Wudu’ and without Ghusl (bath) there is nothing obligatory for him to do, by the will of Allah, most High.’”

Ḥadīth 11

11ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ لاَ بَأْسَ بِأَنْ يَحْتَجِمَ الرَّجُلُ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ.

11. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is permissible for one who has experienced sexual relation to draw blood from his body by means of cupping.’”

Ḥadīth 12

12ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ لاَ بَأْسَ أَنْ يَخْتَضِبَ الرَّجُلُ وَيُجْنِبَ وَهُوَ مُخْتَضِبٌ وَلاَ بَأْسَ أَنْ يَتَنَوَّرَ الْجُنُبُ وَيَحْتَجِمَ وَيَذْبَحَ وَلاَ يَذُوقُ شَيْئاً حَتَّى يَغْسِلَ يَدَيْهِ وَيَتَمَضْمَضَ فَإِنَّهُ يُخَافُ مِنْهُ الْوَضَحُ.

12. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is permissible for a man to apply dye to his hairs and experience sexual relation with dye applied. It is permissible for a man to apply lime to his hairs and experience sexual relation or draw blood from his body by means of cupping or slaughter (an animal for food). He should not taste anything before washing his hands and rinsing his mouth because of fear of the appearance of abnormal whiteness in his skin.’”
