Hadith #1

1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سَهْلٍ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ جَمِيعاً عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الأشْعَرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ رَكْعَتَانِ بِالسِّوَاكِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ سَبْعِينَ رَكْعَةً بِغَيْرِ سِوَاكٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) لَوْ لاَ أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لأَمَرْتُهُمْ بِالسِّوَاكِ مَعَ كُلِّ صَلاَةٍ.

1. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Sahl and Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father all from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al- Ash’ariy from ’Abd Allah ibn Maymun from al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Performing two Rak‘at Salah (prayer) with one’s teeth brushed is better than seventy Rak‘at without one’s teeth brushed. The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Were it not to cause hardships to my followers, I would command them to brush their teeth for every Salah (prayer).”’



Hadith #2

2ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ عَنْ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ مِنْ سُنَنِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ السِّوَاكُ.

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from Yunus ibn Ya’qub from abu ‘Usamah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Brushing one’s teeth is of the traditions of the messengers (of Allah).”



Hadith #3

3ـ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنِ الْعَلاَءِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) مَا زَالَ جَبْرَئِيلُ (عَلَيْهِم الْسَّلام) يُوصِينِي بِالسِّوَاكِ حَتَّى خِفْتُ أَنْ أُحْفِيَ أَوْ أَدْرَدَ.

3. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from ibn Mahbub form al-‘Ala’ from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The Holy prophet has said, “Jibril continued urging me to brush my teeth, until I became fearful of the falling off of my teeth.’””



Hadith #4

4ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَمَّنْ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) فِي السِّوَاكِ قَالَ لاَ تَدَعْهُ فِي كُلِّ ثَلاَثٍ وَلَوْ أَنْ تُمِرَّهُ مَرَّةً.

4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from ibn Bukayr from those whom he has mentioned has said the following: “Abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘You must not neglect brushing after every third (Salah (prayer)) even though it is a light one (brushing).”’



Hadith #5

5ـ عَلِيٌّ بِإِسْنَادِهِ قَالَ أَدْنَى السِّوَاكِ أَنْ تَدْلُكَ بِإِصْبَعِكَ.

5. Ali through his chain of narrators has narrated the following: “He (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The least for brushing is using one’s fingers as a tooth brush.”



Hadith #6

6ـ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنِ الْمُعَلَّى أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ خُنَيْسٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ السِّوَاكِ بَعْدَ الْوُضُوءِ فَقَالَ الاسْتِيَاكُ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَتَوَضَّأَ قُلْتُ أَ رَأَيْتَ إِنْ نَسِيَ حَتَّى يَتَوَضَّأَ قَالَ يَسْتَاكُ ثُمَّ يَتَمَضْمَضُ ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ. وَرُوِيَ أَنَّ السُّنَّةَ فِي السِّوَاكِ فِي وَقْتِ السَّحَرِ.

6. Ahmad ibn Idris has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Safwan from al-Mu‘alla’ abu ‘Uthman from Mu’alla’ ibn Khunays who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about brushing one’s teeth after Wudu’. He (the Imam) said, ‘Brushing is before Wudu’.’ I then asked, ‘What should one do if he forgets and remembers only after Wudu’?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘In such case he should brush and then rinse his mouth three times.’”



Hadith #7

7ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُنْدَارَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ الأحْمَرِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي سَمَّاكٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) إِذَا قُمْتَ بِاللَّيْلِ فَاسْتَكْ فَإِنَّ الْمَلَكَ يَأْتِيكَ فَيَضَعُ فَاهُ عَلَى فِيكَ وَلَيْسَ مِنْ حَرْفٍ تَتْلُوهُ وَتَنْطِقُ بِهِ إِلاَّ صَعِدَ بِهِ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ فَلْيَكُنْ فُوكَ طَيِّبَ الرِّيحِ.

7. Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Bundar has narrated from Ibrahim ibn Ishaq al-Ahmar from ‘Abd Allah ibn Hammad from abu Bakr ibn abu Sammak who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘When you wake up during the night (for Salah (prayer)) you should brush your teeth; the angel comes and places his mouth over your mouth. Every word you say, he climbs with it to the heaven. Your mouth should have a pleasant smell.’”
