16 Aḥadīth
Ḥadīth 1

1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) يَقُولُ إِذَا دَخَلْتَ الْمَخْرَجَ فَقُلْ بِسْمِ الله اللهمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخَبِيثِ الْمُخْبِثِ الرِّجْسِ النِّجْسِ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ فَإِذَا خَرَجْتَ فَقُلْ بِسْمِ الله الْحَمْدُ لله الَّذِي عَافَانِي مِنَ الْخَبِيثِ الْمُخْبِثِ وَأَمَاطَ عَنِّي الأذَى وَإِذَا تَوَضَّأْتَ فَقُلْ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ الله اللهمَّ اجْعَلْنِي مِنَ التَّوَّابِينَ وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنَ الْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ وَالْحَمْدُ لله رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ.

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “I heard abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘When going to a restroom say, “In the name of Allah, O Lord, I seek protection with You against filth and the filthy, unclean Satan, condemned to be stoned.” When coming out of a restroom say, “In the name of Allah, all praise belongs to Allah who has saved me from filth and filthy materials and has removed from me hardship.” When taking Wudu’ say, “I testify that no one, other than Allah, deserves to be worshipped. O Lord, make me of those who repent and of those who cleanse themselves. All praise belongs to Allah, the Cherisher of the worlds.’”

Ḥadīth 2

2ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ إِذَا سَمَّيْتَ فِي الْوُضُوءِ طَهُرَ جَسَدُكَ كُلُّهُ وَإِذَا لَمْ تُسَمِّ لَمْ يَطْهُرْ مِنْ جَسَدِكَ إِلاَّ مَا مَرَّ عَلَيْهِ الْمَاءُ.

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from certain individuals of our people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that when you mention the name of Allah in your Wudu’, the whole of your body is cleansed, but if you do not mention the name of Allah only the parts of your body over which water has passed are cleansed.”

Ḥadīth 3

3ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ أَبِي مَحْمُودٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الرِّضَا (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) يَقُولُ يُسْتَنْجَى وَيُغْسَلُ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهُ عَلَى الشَّرْجِ وَلاَ تُدْخَلُ فِيهِ الأنْمُلَةُ.

3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ibrahim ibn abu Mahmud who has said the following: “I heard abu al-Hassan, al-Rida (a.s.), say, ‘One should get rid of remaining feces and urine by washing what is outside of the buttocks and there is no need to enter one’s fingers inside.’”

Ḥadīth 4

4ـ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مُصَدِّقِ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ عَنْ عَمَّارٍ السَّابَاطِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَسْتَنْجِيَ بِأَيِّمَا يَبْدَأُ بِالْمَقْعَدَةِ أَوْ بِالإِحْلِيلِ فَقَالَ بِالْمَقْعَدَةِ ثُمَّ بِالإِحْلِيلِ.

4. Ahmad ibn Idris has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ahmad ibn al-Hassan ibn Ali from ‘Amr ibn Sa‘id from Musaddiq ibn Sadaqah from ‘Ammar al-Sabatiy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘Should a man after using the toilet first wash his buttocks or his urethra?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is buttocks, then urethra.’”

Ḥadīth 5

5ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) أَنْ يَسْتَنْجِيَ الرَّجُلُ بِيَمِينِهِ.

5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Holy Prophet prohibited using one’s right hand to wash one’s buttocks and urethra.”

Ḥadīth 6

6ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ مَا تَقُولُ فِي الْفَصِّ يُتَّخَذُ مِنْ حِجَارَةِ زُمُرُّدٍ قَالَ لاَ بَأْسَ بِهِ وَلَكِنْ إِذَا أَرَادَ الاسْتِنْجَاءَ نَزَعَهُ.

6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn Ahmad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn ‘Abd Rabbihi who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam), ‘Is it permissible to wear a ring with a stone of Emerald?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘It is not harmful but during washing one’s self after using the toilet, one should remove it.’”

Ḥadīth 7

7ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ الاسْتِنْجَاءُ بِالْيَمِينِ مِنَ الْجَفَاءِ. وَرُوِيَ أَنَّهُ إِذَا كَانَتْ بِالْيَسَارِ عِلَّةٌ.

7. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that washing one’s self with the right hand after using toilet is of injustice.” It is narrated in another Hadith that it is permissible if there something is wrong with the left hand.”

Ḥadīth 8

8ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ جَمِيعاً عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ جَمِيلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ إِذَا انْقَطَعَتْ دِرَّةُ الْبَوْلِ فَصُبَّ الْمَاءَ.

8. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father and Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan all from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Jamil who has said the following: “Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that when the gushing out of urine stops, you can pour water to wash it clean.”

Ḥadīth 9

9ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ لِلاسْتِنْجَاءِ حَدٌّ قَالَ لاَ يُنَقَّى مَا ثَمَّةَ قُلْتُ فَإِنَّهُ يُنَقَّى مَا ثَمَّةَ وَيَبْقَى الرِّيحُ قَالَ الرِّيحُ لاَ يُنْظَرُ إِلَيْهَا.

9. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn al-Mughirah who has said the following: “I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), ’How is washing oneself after using the toilet done? 5 He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not clean as long as something is there.’ I then asked, ‘What happens if everything there is washed clean but smell is there?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Smell is not a thing that can be seen.’”

Ḥadīth 10

10ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سَهْلٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ قَالَ سُئِلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَبُولُ فَيُصِيبُ فَخِذَهُ وَ رُكْبَتَهُ قَدْرَ نُكْتَةٍ مِنْ بَوْلٍ فَيُصَلِّي ثُمَّ يَذْكُرُ بَعْدُ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَغْسِلْهُ قَالَ يَغْسِلُهُ وَيُعِيدُ صَلاَتَهُ.

10. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Sahl from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn abu Nasr from ‘Abd al-Karim ibn ‘Amr from al-Hassan ibn Ziyad who has said the following: “Once abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), was asked about a man whose thigh and knee come in contact with a small drop of urine. He performs Salah (prayer) then remembers that he had not washed it clean? He (the Imam) said, ‘He must perform his Salah (prayer) again.’”

Ḥadīth 11

11ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَهْلٍ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مُصَدِّقِ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ عَنْ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ الرَّجُلُ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَسْتَنْجِيَ كَيْفَ يَقْعُدُ قَالَ كَمَا يَقْعُدُ لِلْغَائِطِ وَقَالَ إِنَّمَا عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَغْسِلَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهُ وَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَغْسِلَ بَاطِنَهُ.

11. Muhammad ibn al-Hassan has narrated from Sahl from Musa ibn al-Qasim from ‘Amr ibn Sa‘id from Musaddiq ibn Sadaqah from ‘Ammar who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘A man wants to wash himself clean after using toilet. How should he sit?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘He sits just as he does when defecating.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘He only needs to wash the outside and not the inside.’”

Ḥadīth 12

12ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مَسْعَدَةَ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) قَالَ لِبَعْضِ نِسَائِهِ مُرِي نِسَاءَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَنْ يَسْتَنْجِينَ بِالْمَاءِ وَيُبَالِغْنَ فَإِنَّهُ مَطْهَرَةٌ لِلْحَوَاشِي وَمَذْهَبَةٌ لِلْبَوَاسِيرِ.

12. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Harun ibn Muslim from Mas’adah ibn Ziyad who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Holy prophet once said to a certain one of his wives, ‘Instruct the believing women to wash themselves clean with water thoroughly; it cleanses the surrounding areas and removes the hemorrhoids.’”

Ḥadīth 13

13ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ جَمِيلِ بْنِ دَرَّاجٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ فِي قَوْلِ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِنَّ الله يُحِبُّ التَّوَّابِينَ وَيُحِبُّ الْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ قَالَ كَانَ النَّاسُ يَسْتَنْجُونَ بِالْكُرْسُفِ وَالأحْجَارِ ثُمَّ أُحْدِثَ الْوُضُوءُ وَهُوَ خُلُقٌ كَرِيمٌ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) وَصَنَعَهُ وَأَنْزَلَ الله فِي كِتَابِهِ إِنَّ الله يُحِبُّ التَّوَّابِينَ وَيُحِبُّ الْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ.

13. Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan and Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Jamil ibn Darraj who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘Allah loves those who repent and cleanse themselves’, said, ‘People would cleanse themselves after using the toilet with cotton and stones. Thereafter, He (Allah) sanctioned Wudu’ and it is of the noble characteristics. The Messenger of Allah commanded people to take Wudu’ and himself performed it. Thereafter Allah revealed in His book, “Allah loves those who repent and those who cleanse themselves. (2:222)’”

Ḥadīth 14

14ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أُذَيْنَةَ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ تَوَضَّأْتُ يَوْماً وَلَمْ أَغْسِلْ ذَكَرِي ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتُ فَسَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) فَقَالَ اغْسِلْ ذَكَرَكَ وَأَعِدْ صَلاَتَكَ.

14. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from ibn ’Udhaynah from Zurarah who has said the following: “One day I performed ablution (wudu’), but I didn't wash my urethra, then I prayed. So I asked abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) about it. He said: “Wash your urethra and repeat your prayer.“

Ḥadīth 15

15ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَقْطِينٍ عَنْ أَخِيهِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَقْطِينٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) فِي الرَّجُلِ يَبُولُ فَيَنْسَى غَسْلَ ذَكَرِهِ ثُمَّ يَتَوَضَّأُ وُضُوءَ الصَّلاَةِ قَالَ يَغْسِلُ ذَكَرَهُ يُعِيدُ الصَّلاَةَ وَلاَ يُعِيدُ الْوُضُوءَ.

15. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Hassan ibn Ali ibn Yaqtin from his brother, Al- Husayn, from Ali ibn Yaqtin who has said the following: “I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about a man who forgets to wash clean his urethra but he takes Wudu’ and performs Salah (prayer). He (the Imam) said, ’He must wash his urethra clean and perform his Salah (prayer) again, but he does not have to take Wudu’ again.’” H 3872, Ch. 12, h 16

Ḥadīth 16

16ـ عَنْهُ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) فِي الرَّجُلِ يَبُولُ وَيَنْسَى أَنْ يَغْسِلَ ذَكَرَهُ حَتَّى يَتَوَضَّأَ وَيُصَلِّيَ قَالَ يَغْسِلُ ذَكَرَهُ وَيُعِيدُ الصَّلاَةَ وَلاَ يُعِيدُ الْوُضُوءَ.

16. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus from Zur’ah, from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘After using toilet if you forget to wash clean your buttocks (because of feces) and take Wudu’, then remember after performing Salah (prayer), you must perform your Salah (prayer) again. If you wash your buttocks clean but forget washing your urethra clean and perform Salah (prayer), you must take Wudu’, wash your urethra and perform your Salah (prayer) again. It is because urine is not like feces.’”
