Al-Kāfi

1ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) يَا بَنِي عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ إِنَّكُمْ لَنْ تَسَعُوا النَّاسَ بِأَمْوَالِكُمْ فَالْقَوْهُمْ بِطَلاقَةِ الْوَجْهِ وَحُسْنِ الْبِشْرِ. وَرَوَاهُ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ جَدِّهِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) إِلا أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَا بَنِي هَاشِمٍ.

1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from al-Hassan ibn al-Husayn who has said the following: “I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘The Messenger of Allah said, “O children of ‘Abd al- Muttalib, you cannot reach the level of people with your wealth. but you should meet them with openness and a delightful face.””’ He has narrated also from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) a similar Hadith except that it says, “O children of Hashim.”

2ـ عَنْهُ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ ثَلاثٌ مَنْ أَتَى الله بِوَاحِدَةٍ مِنْهُنَّ أَوْجَبَ الله لَهُ الْجَنَّةَ الإنْفَاقُ مِنْ إِقْتَارٍ وَالْبِشْرُ لِجَمِيعِ الْعَالَمِ وَالإنْصَافُ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ.

2. It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama’a ibn Mehran from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘If Allah grants to a person one of three things, He will make paradise necessary for him. They are: To give charity in poverty, to have delightful appearance in all people and to exercise justice even against one’s own self.”’

3ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ أَتَى رَسُولَ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ الله أَوْصِنِي فَكَانَ فِيمَا أَوْصَاهُ أَنْ قَالَ الْقَ أَخَاكَ بِوَجْهٍ مُنْبَسِطٍ.

3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn Mahbub from Hisham ibn Salim from abu Basir from abu Ja’far (a.s.) who has said the following: “Once a man came to the Messenger of Allah, saying, ‘O Messenger of Allah, confer upon me good advice.’ Of the advice given to him was this: ‘Meet your brethren (fellow human beings) with open and delightful face.’”

4ـ عَنْهُ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ مَا حَدُّ حُسْنِ الْخُلُقِ قَالَ تُلِينُ جَنَاحَكَ وَتُطِيبُ كَلامَكَ وَتَلْقَى أَخَاكَ بِبِشْرٍ حَسَنٍ.

4. It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from ibn Mahbub from certain individuals of his people who has said the following: “Once I asked Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) ‘What is the limit of excellent moral behavior?’ The Imam said, ‘It is to be relaxed (kindhearted), to have sweet expressions and to meet one’s fellow human beings with a delightful face.’”

5ـ عَنْهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ رِبْعِيٍّ عَنْ فُضَيْلٍ قَالَ صَنَائِعُ الْمَعْرُوفِ وَحُسْنُ الْبِشْرِ يَكْسِبَانِ الْمَحَبَّةَ وَيُدْخِلانِ الْجَنَّةَ وَالْبُخْلُ وَعُبُوسُ الْوَجْهِ يُبْعِدَانِ مِنَ الله وَيُدْخِلانِ النَّارَ.

5. It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from his father from Hammad from Rib’I from Fudayl who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far or Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) has said, ‘Doing lawful favors to others and having a delightful appearance earns love and lead one to paradise. Stinginess and a frowning face lead one away from Allah and into fire (of hell).”’

6ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ مُوسَى (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) حُسْنُ الْبِشْرِ يَذْهَبُ بِالسَّخِيمَةِ.

6. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama’a from abu al-Hassan Musa (a.s.) who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Delightful appearance removes ill will.’”
