1ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ الْوَابِشِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ احْذَرُوا أَهْوَاءَكُمْ كَمَا تَحْذَرُونَ أَعْدَاءَكُمْ فَلَيْسَ شَيْءٌ أَعْدَى لِلرِّجَالِ مِنِ اتِّبَاعِ أَهْوَائِهِمْ وَحَصَائِدِ أَلْسِنَتِهِمْ.
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Mahbub from abu Muhammad al-Wabishi who has said the following: “I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) saying, ‘Be afraid of your desires just as you fear your enemies. Nothing is a more dangerous enemy to men than following their desires and what their tongues harvest.’”
2ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) يَقُولُ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَعِزَّتِي وَجَلالِي وَعَظَمَتِي وَكِبْرِيَائِي وَنُورِي وَعُلُوِّي وَارْتِفَاعِ مَكَانِي لا يُؤْثِرُ عَبْدٌ هَوَاهُ عَلَى هَوَايَ إِلا شَتَّتُّ عَلَيْهِ أَمْرَهُ وَلَبَّسْتُ عَلَيْهِ دُنْيَاهُ وَشَغَلْتُ قَلْبَهُ بِهَا وَلَمْ أُؤْتِهِ مِنْهَا إِلا مَا قَدَّرْتُ لَهُ وَعِزَّتِي وَجَلالِي وَعَظَمَتِي وَنُورِي وَعُلُوِّي وَارْتِفَاعِ مَكَانِي لا يُؤْثِرُ عَبْدٌ هَوَايَ عَلَى هَوَاهُ إِلا اسْتَحْفَظْتُهُ مَلائِكَتِي وَكَفَّلْتُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأرَضِينَ رِزْقَهُ وَكُنْتُ لَهُ مِنْ وَرَاءِ تِجَارَةِ كُلِّ تَاجِرٍ وَأَتَتْهُ الدُّنْيَا وَهِيَ رَاغِمَةٌ.
2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Qasim from abu Hamza from abu la’ far (a.s.) who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, has said, ‘By My Majesty, Glory, Greatness, Supremacy, My Light, Highness, and Exalted position, whoever of the servants gives preference to his desires over My wish, I make his affairs disintegrate, confuse his world upon him, make his heart grow preoccupied with it (desire) and will not give him more than what I have determined for him. By my Majesty, Glory, Greatness, My Light, Highness, and Exalted position, any servant who gives preference to My wish over his own desire, I will assign My angels for his security, make the skies and earth to guarantee his sustenance and I will be behind each one of his business deals with the merchants and the world will come to him subdued and compelled.”’
3ـ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عُقَيْلٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) إِنَّمَا أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمُ اثْنَتَيْنِ اتِّبَاعَ الْهَوَى وَطُولَ الأمَلِ أَمَّا اتِّبَاعُ الْهَوَى فَإِنَّهُ يَصُدُّ عَنِ الْحَقِّ وَأَمَّا طُولُ الأمَلِ فَيُنْسِي الآخِرَةَ.
3. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu’alla ibn Muhammad from al- Washsha’ from ‘Asim ibn Humayd from abu Hamza from Yahya ibn ‘Aqil who has said the following: “Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) has said, ‘I am afraid for you from two things: following your desires and your never ending hopes of worldly matters; following of desires obstructs one from the truth and never ending hope in worldly matters makes one forget the hereafter.’”
4ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ شَمُّونٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الأصَمِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ قَالَ قَالَ لِي أَبُو الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) اتَّقِ الْمُرْتَقَى السَّهْلَ إِذَا كَانَ مُنْحَدَرُهُ وَعْراً قَالَ وَكَانَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ لا تَدَعِ النَّفْسَ وَهَوَاهَا فَإِنَّ هَوَاهَا فِي رَدَاهَا وَتَرْكُ النَّفْسِ وَمَا تَهْوَى أَذَاهَا وَكَفُّ النَّفْسِ عَمَّا تَهْوَى دَوَاهَا.
4. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn al-Hassan ibn Shammun from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Asamm from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Hajjaj who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan (a.s.) once said to me, ‘Beware of an easy climb up that has a very deep and steep climb down.’ “The narrator has said that Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) would say, ‘Do not leave the soul with its desires unguarded; its desires are to destroy it. Leaving the soul with its desires unguarded is hurting the soul, however, guarding the soul against its desires is medicine for its illness.’”
