O Prophet! Say to the captives who are in your hands, ‘If Allah finds any good in your hearts, He will give you [something which is] better than what has been taken away from you, and He will forgive you, and Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.’
Agha Ali Puya Commentary
Commentary on Quran 8:70
[Pooya/Ali Commentary 8:70] This verse confirms that which has been said in the commentary of verse 67. The good in the hearts of Abbas and Aqil led them to embrace Islam and the ransom they paid was given back to them by the Holy Prophet on many occasions, much more than what they paid. The leniency and tolerance shown to the captives indicate that Allah never wanted to put an end to their lives, but intended to give them respite.
