Mobile App Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to the Thaqalayn mobile applications for iOS and Android. It explains what personal data the apps access, collect, store, use, sync, and share when you use mobile features such as prayer times, Qibla, notifications, widgets, bookmarks, notes, subscriptions, and account sync.

Important location notice: the mobile app can access precise location while you are using the app and, if you enable background location features, can also access location while the app is closed or not in use. This supports prayer times, Qibla-related features, widgets, travel detection, Smart Adhan, and home-only alarm automation.

The Thaqalayn mobile apps are provided by Thaqalayn Foundation ("Stichting Thaqalayn"). If you have privacy questions or want to exercise your data rights, contact us at info@thaqalayn.net.

Data We Access or Collect
a. Account and Profile Data
- Data: email address, username, password, optional display name, account verification status, and account identifiers.
- Why: to create and authenticate your account, sync your data across devices, update your profile, change your password, verify your email, and delete your account.
b. Location Data
- Data: precise device location, selected locations, home locations, favourite locations, timezone derived from location, and place/address lookups.
- Why: to calculate prayer times, improve Qibla accuracy, show location-aware content, refresh widgets, detect travel, enable Smart Adhan and home-only alarms, and let you search for places on a map.
- Background location: only used if you enable features that require it. Core reading features do not require background location.
- Storage and sync: your location data, including current location and home locations, generally stays on your device. Favourite locations and some prayer/location settings may be synced to your account if you sign in.
c. Notes, Bookmarks, Collections, and Devotional Data
- Data: bookmarks, bookmark collections, notes attached to hadith, Quran verses, or dua verses, reading progress, search and display preferences, prayer tracking, taqibaat tracking, tasbih settings, notification settings, widget settings, Hijri adjustment, theme/search preferences, and similar app settings.
- Why: to provide your personal library, sync your preferences, restore devotional progress, and keep your app experience consistent across devices when you sign in.
d. Notifications and Device Metadata
- Data: push notification token, platform, device name or brand or model, OS version, app version or build, locale, and timezone.
- Why: to register your device for remote notifications and keep notification delivery working when tokens rotate. Prayer notifications may also be scheduled locally on your device.
e. Analytics and Diagnostics
- Data: screen views, navigation events, touch interactions, app lifecycle events, device and app metadata, crash logs, error reports, and performance traces.
- Why: to understand usage, diagnose bugs, monitor performance, and improve the app.
- Account linking: if you are signed in and analytics linking is enabled in app settings, analytics may be associated with your account identifier, email, username, and related profile metadata. If linking is disabled, analytics are intended to remain unlinked from your account.
f. Purchases and Subscription Data
- Data: app user identifier, subscription entitlement status, offering/package information, purchase or restore status, and store-related transaction metadata processed by the App Store, Google Play, and our subscription processor.
- Why: to sell, restore, manage, and enforce Thaqalayn Pro subscriptions.
g. Feedback, Reports, and Attachments
- Data: feedback type, subject, message body, report text, reported content identifiers, optional screenshot or video attachment, page/app reference, device information, and your auth token if you submit while logged in.
- Why: to review bug reports, content corrections, and user feedback, and to respond or troubleshoot when necessary.
h. Local Device Storage
- Data: auth tokens stored in secure device storage, downloaded databases and translation files, cached content, widget snapshots, attachment temp files, and other app preferences.
- Why: to keep the app functional offline, speed up loading, and preserve your local preferences.
i. Feature-Specific Sharing
- When sharing happens: map searches, selected places, and coordinates may be sent to the relevant map or place provider; notification setup may send your push token and device metadata to our backend; subscriptions are processed by the app store and our subscription processor; and signed-in sync features send account-linked content to our services.
- Important: we do not sell personal data and we do not use third-party ad networks inside the mobile apps.
How We Use Your Data
- To operate the mobile app and provide Quran, hadith, dua, prayer, and related features.
- To calculate accurate prayer times and Qibla information based on your chosen or detected location.
- To run optional background features such as location refresh, widgets, Smart Adhan, and home-aware alarms.
- To authenticate users and sync notes, bookmarks, collections, settings, and devotional progress.
- To send notifications, including prayer reminders and app announcements where supported.
- To process subscriptions, restore purchases, and manage premium access.
- To investigate crashes, bugs, abusive activity, and support requests.
- To improve usability, stability, and performance.
Location-Specific Disclosures
- The app may access precise foreground location to calculate prayer times, improve Qibla direction, and help you pick or confirm your current location.
- The app may access background location only if you enable features that require it, including automatic location refresh, home-screen prayer widgets, Smart Adhan, travel detection, and home-only alarm automation.
- Background location is optional and can be disabled in the app or your device settings at any time.
- If you manually search for a place or use map-based location selection, your query and related coordinates may be processed by Google Maps, Google Places, Apple Maps, or platform geocoding services.
- If you deny location access, some features may be unavailable or less accurate, but core reading features remain available.
Data Retention
- Account-linked data such as notes, synced settings, prayer logs, bookmarks, collections, and profile information are retained while your account remains active or until you delete the data or close your account.
- Feedback, reports, and support materials are retained for as long as needed to investigate, respond, keep records, and protect the service.
- Analytics and diagnostic data are retained according to operational needs and the retention settings of our service providers.
- Local device data remains on your device until it is deleted, overwritten, cleared by the app, or removed when you uninstall the app.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your data. These include encrypted transport, server-side access controls, hashed passwords, and secure device storage for auth tokens where supported. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Choices and Rights
- You can decline or revoke notification, photo-library, and location permissions in your device settings.
- You can disable optional background-location-driven features such as Smart Adhan or automatic location refresh.
- You can delete your account inside the app, which is intended to remove your account and synced data from our services.
- You can contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or other privacy assistance, subject to applicable law.
- You can remove local-only data by clearing app storage or uninstalling the app.
International Processing
Some of our service providers operate internationally, which means your data may be processed outside your country of residence, including in the United States or other jurisdictions where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes to the app, our practices, or legal requirements. When we do, we revise the last updated date shown at the top of this page.
