Ziyarat al-Arba'in

Peace be upon the Friend of Allah and His beloved; peace be upon the Intimate Friend of Allah and His noble one; peace be upon the Chosen One of Allah and the son of His Chosen One; peace be upon al-Husayn, the wronged martyr; peace be upon the captive of distresses and the martyr of tears.

O Allah, I bear witness that he is Your friend and the son of Your friend, Your sincere friend and the son of Your sincere friend, the one triumphant through Your munificence. You honored him with martyrdom, granted him felicity, and singled him out for a pure birth; You made him a master among masters, a leader among leaders, a defender among defenders, and You gave him the inheritances of the prophets, and made him, from among the executors, a proof over Your creation.

Thus he left no excuse in his call, offered sincere counsel, and expended his lifeblood for You, to rescue Your servants from ignorance and the bewilderment of misguidance.

Indeed, those whom the world deluded banded together against him—one who sold his lot for the most contemptible and lowly price, and traded his Hereafter for the most deficient price, and grew arrogant and plunged into his caprice, and angered You and angered Your Prophet, and obeyed, among Your servants, the people of dissension and hypocrisy and the bearers of burdens who deserved the Fire. So he struggled against them for Your sake, patient, seeking reward, until his blood was shed in obedience to You and his sanctuary was violated.

O Allah, therefore curse them with a grievous curse, and chastise them with a painful chastisement.

Peace be upon you, O son of the Messenger of Allah; peace be upon you, O son of the master of the executors. I bear witness that you are the trustee of Allah and the son of His trustee. You lived blessed, passed away lauded, and died missed, wronged, a martyr.

And I bear witness that Allah is the One Who fulfills what He promised you, and the One Who destroys those who abandoned you, and the One Who chastises those who killed you. And I bear witness that you fulfilled the covenant of Allah and struggled in His way until certainty came to you. So may Allah curse those who killed you, and may Allah curse those who wronged you, and may Allah curse a community that heard of that and was pleased with it.

O Allah, I call You to witness that I am a friend to whoever befriends him, and an enemy to whoever is hostile to him. May my father and mother be your ransom, O son of the Messenger of Allah.

I bear witness that you were a light in the lofty loins and the purified wombs; the Age of Ignorance did not defile you with its defilements, nor did the murky darknesses clothe you in any of their garments. And I bear witness that you are among the supports of religion, the pillars of the Muslims, and the stronghold of the believers.

And I bear witness that you are the Imam—the righteous, the God-fearing, the contented, the pure, the guide, the rightly guided. And I bear witness that the Imams from your progeny are the word of taqwa, the beacons of guidance, the firmest handhold, and the proof over the people of the world.

And I bear witness that I am a believer in you, and certain of your return, through the laws of my religion and the final outcomes of my deeds; my heart is at peace with your heart, my affair follows your affair, and my help is prepared for you, until Allah grants you permission. So I am with you—with you—not with your enemy.

May the blessings of Allah be upon you, and upon your souls and your bodies, your present and your absent, your outward and your inward. Amen, O Lord of the Worlds.
