الصَّلَاةُ عَلَى حَمَلَةِ الْعَرْشِ و كلّ مَلَكٍ مقرّبٍ
In Calling down Blessings on the Bearers of the Throne and every angel brought near
Note on Fiqh
1
اللَّهُمَّ وَحَمَلَةُ عَرْشِكَ الَّذِينَ لا يَفْتُرُونَ مِنْ تَسْبِيحِكَ،
allāhumma wa ḥamalatu ʿarshika alladhīna lāyafturūna min tasbīhika
O God, as for the Bearers of Thy Throne, who never flag in glorifying Thee,
2
وَلا يَسْـأَمُـونَ مِنْ تَقْـدِيْسِكَ،
wa lā yas'amūn min taqdisika
never become weary of calling Thee holy,
3
وَلا يَسْتَحسِرُونَ مِنْ عِبَادَتِكَ،
wa lā yastahsiroon min ʿibādatika
never tire of worshipping Thee,
4
وَلاَ يُؤْثِرُونَ التَّقْصِيرَ عَلَى الْجِدِّ فِي أَمْرِكَ،
wa lā yu'thiroona at-taqṣīr ʿalā al-jiddi fī amrika
never prefer curtailment over diligence in Thy command,
5
وَلا يَغْفُلُونَ عَنِ الْوَلَهِ إلَيْكَ.
walā yaghfulūna ʿani al-walaha ilayka
and are never heedless of passionate love for Thee;
6
وَإسْرافِيْلُ صَاحِبُ الصُّوْرِ، الشَّاخِصُ الَّذِي يَنْتَظِرُ
wa isrāfīl ṣāḥibu ṣ-ṣūr, ash-shākhiṣu alladhī yantadhīr
Seraphiel, the Owner of the Trumpet, fixed in his gaze, awaiting
7
مِنْكَ الاذْنَ وَحُلُولَ الامْرِ، فَيُنَبِّهُ بِالنَّفْخَةِ
min-ka al-'adhna wa hulool al-amri, fayunabbihu bi-n-nafkhah
Thy permission and the descent of the Command, that he may arouse through the Blast
8
صَرْعى رَهَائِنِ الْقُبُورِ. وَمِيكَآئِيلُ ذُو الْجَاهِ عِنْدَكَ،
ṣarʿā raḥāʾini al-qubūr. wa mīkāʾīl dhū al-jāhi ʿinda-k
the hostages thrown down in the graves; Michael, possessor of standing with Thee
9
وَالْمَكَانِ الرَّفِيعِ مِنْ طَاعَتِكَ.
wal-makāni ar-rafiʿi min ṭāʿatika
and a raised up place in Thy obedience;
10
وَجِبْريلُ الامِينُ عَلَى وَحْيِكَ،
wajibrīlul-amīnu ʿalā waḥyika
Gabriel, entrusted with Thy revelation,
11
الْمُطَاعُ فِي أَهْلِ سَمَاوَاتِكَ،
al-muṭāʿu fī ahl samāwātika
obeyed by the inhabitants of Thy heavens,
12
الْمَكِينُ لَدَيْكَ، الْمُقَرَّبُ عِنْدَكَ،
al-makīnu ladayka, al-muqarrabu ʿindaka
distinguished in Thy Presence, brought nigh to Thee;
13
وَالرُّوحُ الَّذِي هُوَ عَلَى مَلائِكَةِ الْحُجُبِ،
war-rūḥu al-ladhī huwa ʿalá malāʾikati al-ḥujub
the spirit who is over the angels of the veils;
14
وَالرُّوحُ الَّذِي هُوَ مِنْ أَمْرِكَ.
wa al-ruḥu alladhī huwa min amrika
and the spirit who is of Thy command -
15
أَللَّهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عليهم وَعَلَى الْمَلاَئِكَـةِ
allāhumma faṣalli ʿalayhim wa ʿalā al-malāʾikati
O God! bless them and the angels below them:
16
الَّـذِينَ مِنْ دُونِهِمْ مِنْ سُكَّـانِ سَمَاوَاتِكَ
al-ladhīna min dūnihim min sukkan samāwātik
the residents in Thy heavens,
17
وَأَهْلِ الامَانَةِ عَلَى رِسَالاَتِكَ،
wa ahlil-amānati ʿalā risālātika
those entrusted with Thy messages,
18
وَالَّذِينَ لا تَدْخُلُهُمْ سَأْمَةٌ مِنْ دؤُوب ،
wa alladhīna lā tadkhuluhum sa'matun min du'ūb
those who become not wearied by perseverance,
19
وَلاَ إعْيَاءٌ مِنْ لُغُوب وَلاَ فُتُورٌ،
wa lā ʾiʿyāʾun min luġūb walā futūr
or exhausted and flagged by toil,
20
وَلاَ تَشْغَلُهُمْ عَنْ تَسْبِيحِكَ الشَّهَوَاتُ،
walā tašġaluhum ʿan tasbīḥika aš-šahawāt
whom passions distract not from glorifying Thee,
21
وَلا يَقْطَعُهُمْ عَنْ تَعْظِيمِكَ سَهْوُ الْغَفَـلاَتِ،
wa lā yaqṭaʿuhum ʿan taʿẓīmika sahwu al-ghafalāt
and whose magnification of Thee is never cut off by the inattention of heedless moments;
22
الْخُشَّعُ الابْصارِ فلا يَرُومُونَ النَّظَرَ إلَيْكَ ،
al-khushshau al-absar, fa la yaroomoon al-nathara ilayka
their eyes lowered, they do not attempt to look at Thee;
23
النَّواكِسُ الاذْقانِ الَّذِينَ قَدْ طَالَتْ رَغْبَتُهُمْ فِيمَا لَدَيْكَ
al-nawākis al-aḏqān alladhīna qad ṭālat raghbatohum fīmā ladayk
their chins bowed, they have long desired what is with Thee;
24
الْمُسْتَهْتِرُونَ بِذِكْرِ آلائِكَ
al-mustahtirun bi dhikr aalaa'ik
unrestrained in mentioning Thy boons,
25
وَالْمُتَوَاضِعُونَ دُونَ عَظَمَتِكَ وَجَلاَلِ كِبْرِيآئِكَ
wal-mutawāḍiʿūna dūna ʿaẓamati-ka wa-jalāli kibriyāʾi-ka
they remain humble before Thy mightiness and the majesty of Thy magnificence;
26
وَالَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ إذَا نَظَرُوا إلَى جَهَنَّمَ تَزْفِرُ عَلَى أَهْلِ مَعْصِيَتِكَ:
wa alladhīna yaqūlūna idhā naẓarū ilā jahannam tazfiru ʿalā ahl maʿṣiyatika
those who say when they look upon Gehenna roaring over the people who disobeyed Thee:
27
سُبْحَانَكَ مَا عَبَدْنَاكَ حَقَّ عِبَـادَتِكَ.
subḥānaka mā ʿabadenāka ḥaqqan ʿibādatika
'Glory be to Thee, we have not worshipped Thee with the worship Thou deservest!'
28
فَصَـلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ وَعَلَى الرَّوْحَانِيِّينَ مِنْ مَلائِكَتِكَ،
fasalli ʿalayhim wa ʿala al-ruḥāniyyīn min malāʾikatika.
Bless them, and Thy angels who are the Reposeful,
29
وَ أهْلِ الزُّلْفَةِ عِنْدَكَ، وَحُمَّالِ الْغَيْبِ إلى رُسُلِكَ،
wa ahli alzulfati ʿindaka, wa ḥummalighaybi ila rusulika
those of proximity to Thee, those who carry the unseen to Thy messengers,
30
وَالْمُؤْتَمَنِينَ على وَحْيِكَ وَقَبائِلِ الْمَلائِكَةِ الَّذِينَ اخْتَصَصْتَهُمْ لِنَفْسِكَ،
wal-muʾtama'nīna 'alā waḥyika waqabā'ili'l-malā'ikati al-ladhīna akhtassahum li-nafsika
those entrusted with Thy revelation, the tribes of angels whom Thou hast singled out for Thyself,
31
وَأَغْنَيْتَهُمْ عَنِ الطَّعَامِ والشَّرَابِ بِتَقْدِيْسِكَ،
wa-aghniyatahum ʿani al-ṭaʿāmi wa al-sharābi bi-taqdīsika
freed from need for food and drink by their calling Thee holy,
32
وَأسْكَنْتَهُمْ بُطُونَ أطْبَـاقِ سَمَاوَاتِكَ،
wa 'askantahum butoonat atbaaqi samaawaatika
and made to dwell inside Thy heavens' layers,
33
وَالّذينَ عَلَى أرْجَآئِهَا إذَا نَزَلَ الامْرُ بِتَمَامِ وَعْدِكَ،
wa-alladhīna ʿalā arjāʾihā idhā nazala-l-amru bi-tamāmi waʿdika
those who will stand upon the heavens' borders when the Command descends to complete Thy promise,
34
وَخزّانِ الْمَطَرِ وَزَوَاجِرِ السَّحَابِ،
wa khazzāni al-maṭar wa zawājiri al-sahāb
the keepers of the rain, the drivers of the clouds,
35
وَالّذِي بِصَوْتِ زَجْرِهِ يُسْمَعُ زَجَلُ ألرُّعُوْدِ،
wa alladhi biṣawti zajrihi yusmaʿu zajalu ar-ruʿūd
him at whose driving's sound is heard the rolling of thunder,
36
وَإذَا سَبَحَتْ بِهِ حَفِيفَةُ السّحَـابِ الْتَمَعَتْ صَوَاعِقُ الْبُرُوقِ.
wa-idha sabahat bihi hafifatu as-sahabi at-tama'at sawaiqu al-buruq
and when the reverberating clouds swim before his driving, bolts of lightning flash;
37
وَمُشَيِّعِيْ الْثَلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ. وَالْهَابِطِينَ مَعَ قَطْرِ الْمَطَر إَذَا نَزَلَ،
wa mushayyiʿī al-thalj wa al-barad. wa al-hābitīna maʿa qaṭri al-maṭar idhā nazala
the escorts of snow and hail, the descenders with the drops of rain when they fall,
38
وَالْقُوَّامِ عَلَى خَزَائِنِ الرّيَاحِ،
wal-qouwwami ʿala khazaîni al-riyâh
the watchers over the treasuries of the winds,
39
وَ المُوَكَّلِينَ بِالجِبَالِ فَلا تَزُولُ.
wa al-muwakkalīn bi-ljibāl, falā tazūl
those charged with the mountains lest they disappear,
40
وَالَّذِينَ عَرَّفْتَهُمْ مَثَاقِيلَ الْمِياهِ،
wa alladhīna ʿarraftahum mathāqīla al-miyāh
those whom Thou hast taught the weights of the waters
41
وَكَيْلَ مَا تَحْوِيهِ لَوَاعِجُ الامْطَارِ وَعَوَالِجُهَا،
wa kayla mā taḥwīhi lawāʿiju al-amṭāri wa ʿawālijuhā
and the measures contained by torrents and masses of rain;
42
وَرُسُلِكَ مِنَ الْمَلائِكَةِ إلَى أهْلِ الارْضِ بِمَكْرُوهِ مَا يَنْزِلُ مِنَ الْبَلاءِ،
wa-rusulika min al-malā'ikati ilá ahli al-arḍi bi-makrūhi mā yanzilu min al-balā'i
the angels who are Thy messengers to the people of the earth with the disliked affliction that comes down
43
وَمَحْبُوبِ الرَّخَآءِ، والسَّفَرَةِ الْكِرَامِ اَلبَرَرَةِ،
wa maḥbūbi r-rakhaʾi, wa s-safarati l-kirāmi l-bararati
and the beloved ease; the devoted, noble scribes,
44
وَالْحَفَظَةِ الْكِرَامِ الْكَاتِبِينَ، وَمَلَكِ الْمَوْتِ وَأعْوَانِهِ،
wa al-ḥafẓati al-kirāmi al-kātibīn, wa malaki al-mawt wa aʿwānih
the watchers, noble writers, the angel of death and his helpers,
45
وَمُنْكَر وَنَكِير، وَرُومَانَ فَتَّانِ الْقُبُورِ،
wa-munkar wa-nakīr, wa-rūmān fatta̅ni al-qubūr
Munkar and Nakir, Rumaan, the tester in the graves,
46
وَالطَّائِفِينَ بِالبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِ، وَمَالِك،
walṭā'ifīna bilbayti almamūri, wamālik
the circlers of the Inhabited House, Malik
47
وَالْخَزَنَةِ، وَرُضْوَانَ، وَسَدَنَةِ الْجِنَانِ
wal-khazanati, war-ruḍwana, wa-sadana til-jinani
and the guardians, Ridwan and the gatekeepers of the gardens,
48
وَالَّذِيْنَ لاَ يَعْصُوْنَ اللّهَ مَا أمَرَهُمْ وَيَفْعَلُونَ مَا يُؤْمَرُونَ.
wa-al-ladhina la yas'uuna allaha ma amarahum wayaf'aluna ma yu'marun
those who "disobey not God in What He commands them and do What they are commanded" (66:6);
49
وَالَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ: سَلاَمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ بِمَا صَبَرْتُمْ فَنِعْمَ عُقْبَى الـدّارِ.
wa alladhīna yaqūlūna: salāmun ʿalaykum bimā ṣabartum fanīʿma ʿuqbā alddār
those who say, "Peace be upon you, for that you were patient - and fair is the Ultimate Abode" (13:24);
50
والزّبانيةُ الذّينَ إذَا قِيْـلَ لَهُمْ: خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوْهُ
wa al-zubāniyah alladhīna idhā qīla lahumm khudhūhu faghullūhu
the Zabaniya, who, when it is said to them, "take him, and fetter him,
51
ثُمَّ الْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوْهُ ابْتَدَرُوهُ سِرَاعاً وَلَمْ يُنْظِرُوهُ.
thummal-jahīma ṣallūhu ibtadarūhu sirāʿan wa lam yunẓirūhu
then roast him in hell" (69:30), hasten to accomplish it, nor do they give him any respite;
52
وَمَنْ أوْهَمْنَا ذِكْرَهُ، وَلَمْ نَعْلَمْ مَكَانَهُ مِنْكَ،
wa-man aw-ham-na dhik-ra-hu, wa-lam naʿlam ma-ka-na-hu min-ka
him whom we have failed to mention, not knowing his place with Thee,
53
وَبأيِّ أمْر وَكَّلْتَهُ. وَسُكّانُ الْهَوَآءِ وَالارْضِ وَالمآءِ،
wa bi-ayyi amrin wakkaltahu. wa sukkanu al-hawaa'i wa al-ardi wa al-maa'i
nor with which command Thou hast charged him; and the residents in the air, the earth, and the water,
54
وَمَنْ مِنْهُمْ عَلَى الْخَلْقِ فَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ
wa-man minhum ʿalal-khalqi fasalli ʿalayhim
and those of them charged over the creatures; bless them
55
يَوْمَ تَأْتي كُلُّ نَفْس مَعَهَا سَائِقٌ وَشَهِيدٌ،
yawma ta'ti kullu nafsin maʿaha saʾiqun wa shahidun
on the day when "every soul will come, with it a driver and a witness" (50:21),
56
وَصَلّ عَلَيْهِمْ صَلاَةً تَزِيدُهُمْ كَرَامَةً عَلى كَرَامَتِهِمْ،
wa ṣalla ʿalayhim ṣalātan tazīduhum karamatan ʿalā karamatihim
and bless them with a blessing that will add honour to their honour
57
وَطَهَارَةً عَلَى طَهَارَتِهِمْ
wa ṭahāratun ʿalā ṭahāratihim
and purity to their purity.
58
اللّهُمَّ وَإذَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى مَلاَئِكَتِكَ وَرُسُلِكَ،
allāhumma wa 'idhā ṣallayta ʿalā malā'ikatika wa rusulika
O God, and when Thou blessest Thy angels and Thy messengers
59
وَبَلَّغْتَهُمْ صَلاَتَنَا عَلَيْهِمْ، فَصَلِّ عَلَينا
wa ballaghtahum salaatanaa ʿalayhim, fasalli ʿalayna
and Thou extendest our blessings to them, bless us
60
بِمَا فَتَحْتَ لَنَا مِنْ حُسْنِ الْقَوْلِ فِيْهِمْ إنَّكَ جَوَاْدٌ كَرِيمٌ .
bimā fatḥta lanā min ḥusni-l-qawli fīhim innaka jawādun karīmun
through the good words about them which Thou hast opened up for us! Thou art Munificent, Generous.
