دُعَاؤُهُ فِي طَلَبِ الْعَفْوِ و المَغْفِرَةِ

His Supplication in Seeking Pardon and Mercy

1
أَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
2
وَاكْسِرْ شَهْوَتِي عَنْ كُـلِّ مَحْرَم،
wa khsir shahwati ʿan kulli mahram
break my passion for every unlawful thing,
3
وَازْوِ حِـرْصِي عَنْ كُلِّ مَأثَم،
wa azwī ḥirsī ʿan kulli mātham
take away my craving for any sin,
4
وَامْنَعْنِي عَنْ أَذَى كُـلِّ مُؤْمِن وَمُؤْمِنَـة وَمُسْلِم وَمُسْلِمَة،
wa-amnaʿni ʿan adha kulli muʾminin wa muʾminatin wa muslimin wa muslima
and bar me from harming any believer, male or female, and any Muslim, male or female!

أللَّهُمَّ وَأَيُّمَا عَبْد نالَ مِنِّي مَا حَظَرْتَ عَلَيْهِ،
allāhumma wa ayyuma ʿabdin nāla minnī mā ḥaẓarta ʿalayhi
O God, if any of Thy servants should harm me in what Thou hast forbidden

وَانْتَهَكَ مِنِّي مَا حَجَرْتَ عَلَيْهِ،
wa-antahaka minni maa hajar-ta ʿalayhi
or violate me in what Thou hast interdicted,
7
فَمَضَى بِظُلاَمَتِي مَيِّتاً،
famadha biẓulamati mayyitan
and if he should pass into death with my complaint
8
أَوْ حَصَلَتْ لِيْ قِبَلَهُ حَيّاً،
aw ḥaṣalat lī qibalahu ḥayyan
or I come to have a complaint against him while he is alive,
9
فَاغْفِرْ لَهُ مَا أَلَمَّ بِهِ مِنِّي،
faghfir lahu ma alamma bihi minni
forgive him what he did to me
10
وَاعْفُ لَهُ عَمَّا أَدْبَرَ بِهِ عَنِّي،
waʿfu lahu ʿammā adbara bihi ʿannī
and pardon him that through which he turned his back on me!
11
وَلاَ تَقِفْـهُ عَلَى مَا ارْتَكَبَ فِيَّ،
walā taqifhū ʿalā mā irtakaba fīy
Inquire not from him about what he committed toward me
12
وَلاَ تَكْشِفْهُ عَمَّا اكْتَسَبَ بِيْ،
wala takshifhu ʿamma-aktasaba biy
and expose him not through what he earned by me!
13
وَاجْعَلْ مَا سَمَحْتُ بِهِ مِنَ الْعَفْـوِ عَنْهُمْ
wa-jʿal mā samaḥtu bihi min al-ʿafwi ʿanhum
Make my open-handedness in pardoning such servants
14
وَتَبَرَّعْتُ بِـهِ مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ عَلَيْهِمْ
wa tabarratʿtu bihi mina al-ṣadaqati ʿalayhim
and my contribution in charity toward them
15
أَزْكَى صَدَقَاتِ الْمُتَصَدِّقِينَ
ʾazkā ṣadaqāt al-mutaṣaddiqīn
the purest charity of the charitable
16
وَأَعْلَى صِلاَتِ الْمُتَقَرِّبِينَ،
wa'aʿlaa ṣalāt al-mutaqarrabīn
and the highest gift of those seeking nearness to Thee!
17
وَعَوِّضْنِي مِنْ عَفْوِي عَنْهُمْ عَفْوَكَ
wa ʿawwidhni min ʿafwi ʿanhum ʿafwaka
Recompense me for my pardoning them with Thy pardon
18
وَمِنْ دُعَائِي لَهُمْ رَحْمَتَكَ
wa min du'āʾī lahum raḥmataka
and for my supplicating for them with Thy mercy
19
حَتَّى يَسْعَدَ كُلُّ وَاحِد مِنَّا بِفَضْلِكَ
ḥattā yasʿada kullu wāḥidin minnā bifadlika
so that each one of us may gain felicity through Thy bounty
20
وَيَنْجُوَ كُلٌّ مِنَّا بِمَنِّكَ.
wayanjū kullun minnā bimannika
and each may attain deliverance through Thy kindness!
21
أللَّهُمَّ وَأَيُّما عَبْد مِنْ عَبِيْدِكَ
allāhumma wa-ayyuma ʿabd min ʿibādik
O God, if there is a servant from among Thy servants
22
أدرَكَهُ مِنِّي دَرَكٌ أَوْ مَسَّهُ مِنْ نَاحِيَتِي أَذَىً،
ʾadrakah minnī darakun aw massahū min nāḥiyatī ʾaẓāan
whom an ill visits on my account, a harm touches from my direction,
23
أَوْ لَحِقَـهُ بِي أَوْ بِسَبَبي ظُلْمٌ
aw lahiqahu biyy aw bisababi dhulmun
or a wrong overtakes through me or because of me,
24
فَفُتُّهُ بِحَقِّـهِ،
fafuttuhu bihaqqihi
and should I fail to take care of his right
25
أَوْسَبَقْتُهُ بِمَظْلَمَتِهِ،
ʾawsabaqtu-hu bi-maẓlamati-hi
or go before him [in death] with his complaint,
26
فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،
fa ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
bless Muhammad and his Household,
27
وَأَرْضِهِ عَنِّي مِنْ وُجْدِكَ، وَأَوْفِهِ حَقَّهُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ،
wa-arḍihi ʿannī min wujdika, wa-awfihu ḥaqqahu min ʿindika
satisfy him toward me through Thy wealth, and give him his full right from Thyself!
28
ثُمَّ قِنيْ مَا يُوجِبُ لَهُ حُكْمُكَ،
thumma qinī mā yūjibuhu ḥukmuka
Then protect me from what Thy decision mandates
29
وَخَلِّصْنِي مِمَّا يَحْكُمُ بِهِ عَدْلُكَ،
wa khalliṣnī mimma yahkumu bihi ʿadluka
and save me from what Thy justice decides,
30
فَإنَّ قُوَّتِي لا تَسْتَقِلُّ بِنَقِمَتِكَ،
fa'inna quwwati la tastaqillu binagimatika
for my strength cannot bear Thy vengeance
31
وَإنَّ طَاقتِي لا تَنْهَضُ بِسُخْطِكَ،
wa'innataqatī lā tanhadhu bisukhtika
and my power cannot stand up to Thy displeasure!
32
فَإنَّكَ إنْ تُكَـافِنِي بِالْحَقِّ تُهْلِكْنِي،
fa'innaka in tukafini bilhaqqi tuhlíkni
If Thou recompensest me with the right, Thou wilt destroy me,
33
وَإلاّ تَغَمَّـدْنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ تُوبِقْنِي.
wa-illā taghammadnī birahmatika tūbiq-nī
and if Thou dost not shield me in Thy mercy, Thou wilt lay me waste.

أللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أَسْتَوْهِبُكَ يَا إلهِي مَا لا يَنْقُصُكَ بَذْلُهُ،
allāhumma innī astawhibuka yā ilāhī mā lā yanqusuka badluhu
O God, I ask Thee to grant, my God, that whose giving will not decrease Thee,
35
وَأَسْتَحْمِلُكَ مَا لا يَبْهَظُكَ حَمْلُهُ،
wa-astahmiluka ma la yabhathuka hamluhu
and I ask Thee to carry that whose carrying will not weigh Thee down:
36
أَسْتَوْهِبُكَ يَا إلهِي نَفْسِيَ الَّتِيْ لَمْ تَخْلُقْهَا لِتَمْتَنِعَ بِهَا مِنْ سُوء،
astauhibuka ya ilahi nafsiya allati lam takhlukha litamtani'a biha min su'
My God, I ask Thee to give my soul, which Thou didst not create to keep Thyself from evil
37
أَوْ لِتَطَرَّقَ بِهَا إلى نَفْع،
aw litatarraq biha ila nafʿ
nor to find the way to profit.
38
وَلكِنْ أَنْشَأتَهَا إثْبَاتاً لِقُدْرَتِكَ عَلَى مِثْلِهَا،
walakin ansha'tahā ithbātan liqudrati-ka 'alā mithli-hā
No, Thou brought it forth to demonstrate Thy power over its like
39
وَاحْتِجَاجاً بِهَا عَلَى شَكْلِهَا،
waḥtiǧājan bihā ʿalā shaklihā
and to provide an argument against its similar.
40
وَأَسْتَحْمِلُكَ مِنْ ذُنُوبِي مَا قَدْ بَهَظَنِي حَمْلُهُ،
wa-astahmiluka min dhunubi ma qad bahazhani hamluhu
I ask Thee to carry those of my sins whose carrying weighs me down
41
وَأَسْتَعِينُ بِكَ عَلَى مَا قَدْ فَدَحَنِي ثِقْلُهُ.
wa astaʿīnu bika ʿalā mā qad fadaḥanī thiqluhu
and I seek help from Thee in that whose heaviness oppresses me.
42
فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،
faṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih
So bless Muhammad and his Household,
43
وَهَبْ لِنَفْسِي عَلَى ظُلْمِهَا نَفْسِيْ،
wahab li nafsi ʿala ẓulmiha nafsi
give to me my soul in spite of its wrongdoing,
44
وَوَكِّلْ رَحْمَتَكَ بِاحْتِمَالِ إصْرِي،
wa wakkill raḥmataka bi-iḥtimāli iṣrī
and appoint Thy mercy to carry my burden!
45
فَكَمْ قَدْ لَحِقَتْ رَحْمَتُكَ بِالْمُسِيئِينَ،
fakam qad lahiqat rahmatuka bil musii'in
How many evildoers Thy mercy has overtaken!
46
وَكَمْ قَدْ شَمِلَ عَفْوُكَ الظَّالِمِينَ.
wa kam qad shamilafu ka al-thalimeen
How many wrongdoers Thy pardon has embraced!
47
فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ، وَاجْعَلْنِي أُسْوَةَ مَنْ قَدْ أَنْهَضْتَهُ
fa sallī ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihi, wajʿalnī uswatam man qad anhadtahu.
So bless Muhammad and his Household and make me the model of him whom Thou hast aroused
48
بِتَجَاوُزِكَ عَنْ مَصَارِعِ الْخَاطِئِينَ،
bi-tajāwuzika ʿan maṣāriʿi l-khāṭiʾīn
through Thy forbearance from the deadly infirmities of the offenders
49
وَخَلَّصْتَهُ بِتَوْفِيقِكَ مِنْ وَرَطَاتِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ،
wa khallass-tahu bi tawfiqika min warataatil mujrimeen
and saved through Thy giving success from the tangled plights of the sinners,
50
فَأَصْبَحَ طَلِيقَ عَفْوِكَ مِنْ إسَارِ سُخْطِكَ،
fa-asbaha ṭalīqa ʿafwik mni iṣāri sukḥtik
so that I may rise up freed by Thy pardon from the bonds of Thy displeasure
51
وَعَتِيقَ صُنْعِكَ مِنْ وَثَاقِ عَدْلِكَ،
waʿatīqa su-nʿika min wathāqi ʿadlika
and released by Thy benefaction from the ties of Thy justice!
52
إنَّكَ إنْ تَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ يَا إلهِي تَفْعَلْهُ بِمَنْ
'innaka 'in taf'al dhalika ya ilahi taf'alhu bi-man
Surely if Thou dost that, my God, Thou wilt do it to one
53
لاَ يَجْحَدُ اسْتِحْقَاقَ عُقُوبَتِكَ،
lā yajhadu istiḥqāqa ʿuqūbatika
who does not deny deserving Thy punishment
54
وَلاَ يُبَرِّئُ نَفْسَهُ مِنِ اسْتِيجَابِ نَقِمَتِكَ،
wa lā yubarri'u nafsahu min istijāb naqimatak
or acquit himself from merit for Thy vengeance.
55
تَفْعَلُ ذلِكَ يَا إلهِي بِمَنْ خَوْفُهُ مِنْكَ أَكْثَرُ مِنْ طَمَعِهِ فِيكَ،
tafʿalu dhalika yā ilahī biman khawfuhu minka aktharu min tamaʿihi fīk
Do that, my God, for one whose fear of Thee is greater than his craving from Thee,
56
وَبِمَنْ يَأْسُهُ مِنَ النَّجَاةِ أَوْكَدُ مِنْ رَجَائِهِ لِلْخَلاَصِ،
wa biman yasuhu minan najati awkadu min rajaihi lil-khalas
whose hopelessness of deliverance is firmer than his hope for salvation!
57
لاَ أَنْ يَكُونَ يَأْسُهُ قُنُوطَاً
lā ʾan yakūna yaʾsuhu qunūṭān
Not that his hopelessness is despair,
58
أَوْ أَنْ يَكُونَ طَمَعُهُ اغْتِرَاراً
aw ʾan yakūna ṭamahu ightirāran
nor that his expectation is deluded.
59
بَلْ لِقِلَّةِ حَسَنَاتِهِ بَيْنَ سَيِّئاتِهِ،
bal liqillati hasanatihi bayna sayyi'atih
No, rather his good deeds are few among his evil deeds
60
وَضَعْفِ حُجَجِهِ فِي جَمِيعِ تَبِعَاتِهِ،
waḍaʿfi ḥujajihi fī jamiʿi tabiʿātihi
and his arguments are frail in face of everything due from his acts.
61
فَأَمَّا أَنْتَ يَا إلهِي فَأَهْلٌ أَنْ
fa'amman anta ya ilahi fa'ahlun an
But Thou, my God, art worthy that
62
لاَ يَغْتَرَّ بِكَ الصِّدِّيقُونَ،
lā yaghṭarr bika ṣ-ṣid-dīqūn
the righteous not be deluded concerning Thee
63
وَلاَ يَيْأَسَ مِنْكَ الْمُجْرِمُونَ،
walā yaiʾasa minka al-mujrimūn
and the sinners not lose hope in Thee,
64
لاَِنَّكَ ألرَّبُّ الْعَظِيمُ الَّذِيْ لاَ يَمْنَعُ أَحَداً فَضْلَهُ
lānaka al-rabbu al-ʿaẓīmu alladhī lā yamnaʿu aḥadan faḍlahu
for Thou art the All-mighty Lord who holds back His bounty from none
65
وَلاَ يَسْتَقْصِي مِنْ أَحَد حَقَّـهُ.
wa lā yastaqsī min aḥad ḥaqquh
and takes His full right from no one.
66
تَعَالى ذِكْرُكَ عَنِ الْمَذْكُورِينَ،
taʿālá dhikruka ʿani al-madhdhūrīn
High exalted is Thy mention above those mentioned!
67
وَتَقَدَّست أَسْمَاؤُكَ عَنِ الْمَنْسُوبِينَ،
wataqaddast asmā'uka 'anil-mansūbīn
Holy are Thy names beyond those described!
68
وَفَشَتْ نِعْمَتُكَ فِيْ جَمِيْعِ الْمَخْلُوقِينَ،
wa fashat niʿmatuka fī jamiʿ al-makhlooqeen
Spread is Thy favour among all creatures!
69
فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ .
falaka al-ḥamdu ʿalā dhālika yā rabba al-ʿālamīn
Thine is the praise for that, O Lord of the worlds!
