429. A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ali Bin Al-Hakam, from one of our companions, who has narrated the following: Abu Abdullah (a.s) has said: ‘The life span of Noah (a.s) was of two thousand and three hundred years, of which eight hundred and fifty were spent before he (a.s) was Sent (as a Prophet (a.s)), and a thousand years less fifty years (950) was whilst he (a.s) was among his (a.s) people calling them, and five hundred years were after he (a.s) had disembarked from the ship, and the water subsided, so he (a.s) built the cities and settled his (a.s) children in them. Then the Angel of death came whilst he (a.s) was in the open sun and said: ‘Peace be upon you (a.s)!’ So Noah (a.s) returned (the greeting) and said: ‘What made you to come, O Angel of Death?’ He said: ‘I came to you (a.s) to capture your (a.s) soul’. He (a.s) said: ‘Leave me whilst I (a.s) come out from the open sun and enter into the shade’. So he said to him (a.s); ‘Yes’. So he (a.s) transferred himself (a.s), then said: ‘O Angel of Death! All of what has passed by me (a.s) from the (life of the) world is like my (a.s) transfer from the open sun into the shade. So fulfil the task you have been Commanded to’. So he captured his (a.s) soul’.
