Al-Kāfi

الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَنْ شَرِبَ مُسْكِراً انْحَبَسَتْ صَلَاتُهُ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً وَ إِنْ مَاتَ فِي الْأَرْبَعِينَ مَاتَ مِيتَةً جَاهِلِيَّةً فَإِنْ تَابَ تَابَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ عَلَيْهِ .

1. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from ‘Abd al- Rahman ibn abu ‘Abd Allah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one drinks intoxicating liquor his Salat (prayer) is withheld for forty days, and if he dies within the forty days he dies like the people of the time of ignorance, but if he repents (turns to) Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, also turns to him.’”

أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْكُوفِيِّ عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ الْحُصَيْنِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَنْ شَرِبَ مُسْكِراً لَمْ تُقْبَلْ مِنْهُ صَلَاتُهُ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً فَإِنْ مَاتَ فِي الْأَرْبَعِينَ مَاتَ مِيتَةً جَاهِلِيَّةً وَ إِنْ تَابَ تَابَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ .

2. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Ali al-Kufiy from al-‘Abbas ibn ‘Amir from Dawud ibn al-Husayn who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one drinks intoxicating liquor his Salat (prayer) is not accepted for forty days. If he dies within the forty days, he dies as one of the ignorant people (pagans) and if he repents (turns to), Allah also turns to him.’”

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مِهْرَانَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ سَعْدٍ الْإِسْكَافِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَنْ شَرِبَ مُسْكِراً لَمْ تُقْبَلْ مِنْهُ صَلَاتُهُ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً وَ إِنْ عَادَ سَقَاهُ اللَّهُ مِنْ طِينَةِ خَبَالٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ وَ مَا طِينَةُ خَبَالٍ فَقَالَ مَاءٌ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ فُرُوجِ الزُّنَاةِ .

3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Mehran ibn Muhammad from a man from Sa‘d al-‘Iskaf who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘If one drinks intoxicating liquor his Salat (prayer) is not accepted for forty days. If he returns to drink again Allah will make him drink from Tinah of Khabal, which he (the Imam) said, is a liquid that comes out of the vagina of fornicators.’”

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ لَمْ يَقْبَلِ اللَّهُ لَهُ صَلَاةً أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً .

4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Hajj aj who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one drinks wine his Salat (prayer) is not accepted for forty days.’”

أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا ( عليهما السلام ) قَالَ مَنْ شَرِبَ مِنَ الْخَمْرِ شَرْبَةً لَمْ يَقْبَلِ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ صَلَاةً أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً .

5. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Safwan from al-‘Ala’ from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “One of the two Imam, (abu Ja‘far or abu ‘Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ‘If one drinks one sip of wine his Salat (prayer) is not accepted forty days.’”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ سَيْفِ بْنِ عَمِيرَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَرْوَانَ عَنِ الْفُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ عِنْدَ فِطْرِ كُلِّ لَيْلَةٍ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ عُتَقَاءَ يُعْتِقُهُمْ مِنَ النَّارِ إِلَّا مَنْ أَفْطَرَ عَلَى مُسْكِرٍ وَ مَنْ شَرِبَ مُسْكِراً لَمْ تُحْتَسَبْ لَهُ صَلَاتُهُ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً فَإِنْ مَاتَ فِيهَا مَاتَ مِيتَةً جَاهِلِيَّةً .

6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Sayf ibn ‘Amirah from Muhammad ibn Marwan from al-Fudayl ibn Yasar who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘In the month of Ramadan at the time of iftar (at sunset) Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, every night frees people from the fire except those who break their fast with intoxicating liquor. If a person drinks intoxicating liquor none of his Salat (prayer) is counted for forty days and if he dies in those forty days he has died like as an ignorant (pagan) person.’”

أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِنَّهُ لَمَّا احْتُضِرَ أَبِي ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لِي يَا بُنَيَّ إِنَّهُ لَا يَنَالُ شَفَاعَتَنَا مَنِ اسْتَخَفَّ بِالصَّلَاةِ وَ لَا يَرِدُ عَلَيْنَا الْحَوْضَ مَنْ أَدْمَنَ هَذِهِ الْأَشْرِبَةَ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَهْ وَ أَيَّ الْأَشْرِبَةِ فَقَالَ كُلَّ مُسْكِرٍ .

7. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from ibn Muskan from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), has said, ‘When my father was about to pass away he said to me, ‘My son, our intercession will not apply to those who take their Salat (prayer) lightly and the addicts of these drinks will not be able to come to us at the pond. I then asked, ‘What are these drinks, O father?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is all intoxicating liquor.’”

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) مَنْ شَرِبَ مِنْكُمْ مُسْكِراً لَمْ تُقْبَلْ مِنْهُ صَلَاتُهُ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً .

8. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Khalid from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah ibn Mehran who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘If one [of you] drinks intoxicating liquor his Salat (prayer) is not accepted for forty days.’”

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ الْمُخْتَارِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شِمْرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ مَنْ شَرِبَ شَرْبَةَ خَمْرٍ لَمْ يَقْبَلِ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ صَلَاتَهُ سَبْعاً وَ مَنْ سَكِرَ لَمْ تُقْبَلْ مِنْهُ صَلَاتُهُ أَرْبَعِينَ صَبَاحاً .

9. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Husayn ibn al-Mukhtar from ‘Amr ibn Shamir who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘If one drinks one sip of wine Allah will not accept his Salat (prayer) for seven (days) and if one becomes drunk his Salat (prayer) is not accepted for forty days.’”

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) مَنْ شَرِبَ خَمْراً حَتَّى يَسْكَرَ لَمْ يَقْبَلِ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ مِنْهُ صَلَاتَهُ أَرْبَعِينَ صَبَاحاً .

10. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from n Khalid from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah ibn Mehran from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘If one drinks wine till he becomes drunk Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, will not accept his Salat (prayer) for forty days.”’

عَلِيٌّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّضْرِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِخَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَنْ شَرِبَ شَرْبَةً مِنْ خَمْرٍ لَمْ يَقْبَلِ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ صَلَاتَهُ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً .

11. Ali has narrated from his father from al-Nadr ibn Suwayd from Hisham ibn Salim from Sulayman ibn Khalid who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one drinks one sip of wine his Salat (prayer) is not accepted for forty days.’”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) إِنَّا رُوِّينَا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ لَمْ تُحْتَسَبْ لَهُ صَلَاتُهُ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً قَالَ فَقَالَ صَدَقُوا قُلْتُ وَ كَيْفَ لَا تُحْتَسَبُ صَلَاتُهُ أَرْبَعِينَ صَبَاحاً لَا أَقَلَّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَ لَا أَكْثَرَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ قَدَّرَ خَلْقَ الْإِنْسَانِ فَصَيَّرَهُ نُطْفَةً أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً ثُمَّ نَقَلَهَا فَصَيَّرَهَا عَلَقَةً أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً ثُمَّ نَقَلَهَا فَصَيَّرَهَا مُضْغَةً أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً فَهُوَ إِذَا شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ بَقِيَتْ فِي مُشَاشِهِ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً عَلَى قَدْرِ انْتِقَالِ خِلْقَتِهِقَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ ( عليه السلام ) وَ كَذَلِكَ جَمِيعُ غِذَائِهِ أَكْلِهِ وَ شُرْبِهِ يَبْقَى فِي مُشَاشِهِ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً.

12. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn abu Nasr from al-Husayn ibn Khalid who has said the following: “I once said to abu al-Hassan, Alayhi al-Salam, ‘It is narrated to us from the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, that he has said, “If one drinks wine his Salat (prayer) is not counted for forty days.’” He (the Imam) said, ‘They have spoken the truth.’ I then asked, ‘How is it that his Salat (prayer) is not counted for forty days: no less and no more?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, determined the creation of human beings so it becomes nutfah (seed, sperm) in forty days, then it changes and becomes a clot of blood in forty days, then it changes and becomes a lump of flesh (embryo) in forty days. If he drinks wine it remains in his bone joints for forty days proportionate to the changes in his creation.’ He (the narrator) has said that he (the Imam) then said, ‘In the same away all of his other food and drinks remain in his bone joints for forty days.’”
