Al-Kāfi - Volume 6 > Barley Bread
Hadith #1

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ فَضْلُ خُبْزِ الشَّعِيرِ عَلَى الْبُرِّ كَفَضْلِنَا عَلَى النَّاسِ وَ مَا مِنْ نَبِيٍّ إِلَّا وَ قَدْ دَعَا لِأَكْلِ الشَّعِيرِ وَ بَارَكَ عَلَيْهِ وَ مَا دَخَلَ جَوْفاً إِلَّا وَ أَخْرَجَ كُلَّ دَاءٍ فِيهِ وَ هُوَ قُوتُ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ وَ طَعَامُ الْأَبْرَارِ أَبَى اللَّهُ تَعَالَى أَنْ يَجْعَلَ قُوتَ أَنْبِيَائِهِ إِلَّا شَعِيراً .

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, The excellence of barley bread over wheat bread is like our excellence over the people. There had not been any Prophet, who did not ask to eat barley bread and blessed it. In whichever stomach it enters, it removes every illness thereof. It is the sustenance of the Prophets and the food of the virtuous ones. Allah, most High, disdained to make the food of His Prophets in anything other than barley.”’
