مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ غِيَاثِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) لَا تَأْكُلُوا مِنْ رَأْسِ الثَّرِيدِ وَ كُلُوا مِنْ جَوَانِبِهِ فَإِنَّ الْبَرَكَةَ فِي رَأْسِهِ .


1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Yahya from Ghiyath ibn Ibrahim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ’Do not eat from the top of Tharid but eat from its sides because blessing is on its top.’” (Tharid is loaf of bread broken in pieces in broth.)

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) سُئِلَ عَنْ سُفْرَةٍ وُجِدَتْ فِي الطَّرِيقِ مَطْرُوحَةً كَثِيرٍ لَحْمُهَا وَ خُبْزُهَا وَ بَيْضُهَا وَ جُبُنُّهَا وَ فِيهَا سِكِّينٌ فَقَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) يُقَوَّمُ مَا فِيهَا ثُمَّ يُؤْكَلُ لِأَنَّهُ يَفْسُدُ وَ لَيْسَ لَهُ بَقَاءٌ فَإِنْ جَاءَ طَالِبُهَا غَرِمُوا لَهُ الثَّمَنَ قِيلَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لَا يُدْرَى سُفْرَةُ مُسْلِمٍ أَوْ سُفْرَةُ مَجُوسِيٍّ فَقَالَ هُمْ فِي سَعَةٍ حَتَّى يَعْلَمُوا .


2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin was asked about a package of food which is found having been left on the road, in which there is a large amount of meat, bread, eggs and cheese and there is a knife in it. ’Amir al-Mu’minin said, ‘It must be evaluated and its contents used for food because it is perishable; and if someone claims it, the evaluated price must be paid to him.’ It was said, ‘O ’Amir al-Mu’minin, it is not known if it belongs to a Muslim or it is a package of a Zoroastrian.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘They are free to use it until they know.”’

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَأْكُلْ مِمَّا يَلِيهِ .


3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al-Ash‘ariy from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘When you eat you must eat from what is nearest to you.’”

حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْخَشَّابِ عَنِ ابْنِ بَقَّاحٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ جُمَيْعٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) يَلْطَعُ الْقَصْعَةَ وَ يَقُولُ مَنْ لَطَعَ قَصْعَةً فَكَأَنَّمَا تَصَدَّقَ بِمِثْلِهَا .


4. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Khashshab from ibn Baqqah from ‘Amr ibn Jami’ who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, when eating would wipe the dish clean and say, “Whoever, wipes the dish clean is as if has given charity as much.’””

عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) يَسْتَاكُ عَرْضاً وَ يَأْكُلُ هَرْتاً وَ قَالَ الْهَرْتُ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ بِأَصَابِعِهِ جَمِيعاً .


5. Ali ibn Muhammad in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, would brush his teeth widthwise and eat using all of his fingers.’”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي خَدِيجَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَجْلِسُ جِلْسَةَ الْعَبْدِ وَ يَضَعُ يَدَهُ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ وَ يَأْكُلُ بِثَلَاثِ أَصَابِعَ وَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) كَانَ يَأْكُلُ هَكَذَا لَيْسَ كَمَا يَفْعَلُ الْجَبَّارُونَ أَحَدُهُمْ يَأْكُلُ بِإِصْبَعَيْهِ .


6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Hassan from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu Hashim from abu Khadijah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, would sit like slaves, place his hand on the ground and eat with his three fingers. The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, would also eat in the same way and not the way a tyrant one eats with his two fingers.’”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ جَدِّهِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ طَعَاماً فَمَصَّ أَصَابِعَهُ الَّتِي أَكَلَ بِهَا قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بَارَكَ اللَّهُ فِيكَ .


7. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has stated this Hadith. ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, “When one of you eats food he should wipe (lick) his fingers, clean with which he has eaten; Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, says, ‘Allah grants you blessings.”””

عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُنْدَارَ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ نُوحِ بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ يَاسِرٍ الْخَادِمِ قَالَ أَكَلَ الْغِلْمَانُ يَوْماً فَاكِهَةً وَ لَمْ يَسْتَقْصُوا أَكْلَهَا وَ رَمَوْا بِهَا فَقَالَ لَهُمْ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمُ اسْتَغْنَيْتُمْ فَإِنَّ أُنَاساً لَمْ يَسْتَغْنُوا أَطْعِمُوهُ مَنْ يَحْتَاجُ إِلَيْهِ .


8. Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Bandar has narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Nuh ibn Shu’ayb from Yasir al-Khadim who has said the following: “One day boys ate fruit but they did not eat them all and threw them away. Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al- Salam, said to them, ’Allah is free of all defects, if you did not need them, there are people who need them. You must feed those who are needy.’”

أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ تَحْضُرُ وَ قَدْ وُضِعَ الطَّعَامُ قَالَ إِنْ كَانَ فِي أَوَّلِ الْوَقْتِ يُبْدَأُ بِالطَّعَامِ وَ إِنْ كَانَ قَدْ مَضَى مِنَ الْوَقْتِ شَيْ‏ءٌ وَ تَخَافُ أَنْ تَفُوتَكَ فَتُعِيدَ الصَّلَاةَ فَابْدَأْ بِالصَّلَاةِ .


9. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah ibn Mehran who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about Salat (prayer) for which the time has begun and food is made available. He (the Imam) said, ‘If it is the beginning of the time for Salat (prayer), then first begin with food; but if the time has passed and you are afraid of missing Salat (prayer) for which you then must do Qada’ (the compensatory Salat), then begin with Salat (prayer) first.’”

عَنْهُ عَنْ نُوحِ بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ يَاسِرٍ الْخَادِمِ وَ نَادِرٍ جَمِيعاً قَالَا قَالَ لَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) إِنْ قُمْتُ عَلَى رُءُوسِكُمْ وَ أَنْتُمْ تَأْكُلُونَ فَلَا تَقُومُوا حَتَّى تَفْرُغُوا وَ لَرُبَّمَا دَعَا بَعْضَنَا فَيُقَالُ لَهُ هُمْ يَأْكُلُونَ فَيَقُولُ دَعْهُمْ حَتَّى يَفْرُغُوا .


10. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Nuh ibn Shu’ayb from Yasar al-Khadim and Nadir who both have said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said to us, ‘If I stand up above you when you are eating, do not stand up until you complete eating.’ Perhaps he called a certain one of us and it was said that they are eating; he (the Imam) would say, ’Leave them until they finish.’”

وَ رُوِيَ عَنْ نَادِرٍ الْخَادِمِ قَالَ كَانَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُنَا لَا يَسْتَخْدِمُهُ حَتَّى يَفْرُغَ مِنْ طَعَامِهِ .


11. It is narrated from Nadir al-Khadim who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, would not ask us to work when we were eating until we finished eating.’”

وَ رَوَى نَادِرٌ الْخَادِمُ قَالَ كَانَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) يَضَعُ جَوْزِينَجَةً عَلَى الْأُخْرَى وَ يُنَاوِلُنِي .


12. It is narrated from Nadir al-Khadim who has said the following “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, would place Jawzinajah (a type of sweet) one on top of the other, and then give them to me.’”

أَحْمَدُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ الْجَعْفَرِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) رُبَّمَا أُتِيَ بِالْمَائِدَةِ فَأَرَادَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ أَنْ يَغْسِلَ يَدَهُ فَيَقُولُ مَنْ كَانَتْ يَدُهُ نَظِيفَةً فَلَا بَأْسَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يَغْسِلَ يَدَهُ .


13. Ahmad has narrated from his father from Sulayman al-Ja‘fariy who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when food was made available and certain people had not washed their hands, would say, ‘Those whose hands are clean can eat without washing their hands.’”

أَحْمَدُ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي الْبِلَادِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ بَزِيعِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ بَزِيعٍ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) وَ هُوَ يَأْكُلُ خَلًّا وَ زَيْتاً فِي قَصْعَةٍ سَوْدَاءَ مَكْتُوبٍ فِي وَسَطِهَا بِصُفْرَةٍ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ فَقَالَ لِي ادْنُ يَا بَزِيعُ فَدَنَوْتُ فَأَكَلْتُ مَعَهُ ثُمَّ حَسَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ ثَلَاثَ حَسِيَّاتٍ حِينَ لَمْ يَبْقَ مِنَ الْخُبْزِ شَيْ‏ءٌ ثُمَّ نَاوَلَنِيهَا فَحَسَوْتُ الْبَقِيَّةَ .


14. Ahmad has narrated from Yahya ibn Ibrahim from Muhammad ibn Yahya from ibn abu al-Balad from his father from Bazi‘ ibn ‘Umar ibn Bazi‘ who has said the following: “I once visited abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when he was eating vinegar with oil in a black bowl, in the middle of which it was written, ‘Say Allah is one’. He (the Imam) said to me, ‘Come close, O Bazi’’. I went close and ate with him (the Imam). He (the Imam) sipped water three times when bread was finished; then he gave it to me and I drank the rest of the water.’”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ مُعَمَّرِ بْنِ خَلَّادٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ مَنْ أَكَلَ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ طَعَاماً فَسَقَطَ مِنْهُ شَيْ‏ءٌ فَلْيَتَنَاوَلْهُ وَ مَنْ أَكَلَ فِي الصَّحْرَاءِ أَوْ خَارِجاً فَلْيَتْرُكْهُ لِطَائِرٍ أَوْ سَبُعٍ .


15. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Mu’ammar ibn Khallad who has said the following: “I once heard al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘If one eats food in his house and pieces fall, he must pick them up; but if one eats in wilderness or out of the house he can leave such pieces for the birds and beasts.’”

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ أَوْلَمَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَلَيْكَ بِالْمَسَاكِينِ فَأَشْبِعْهُمْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ يَقُولُ وَ ما يُبْدِئُ الْباطِلُ وَ ما يُعِيدُ .


16. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hammad ibn ‘Uthaman who has said the following: “’Isma’il prepared food for a ceremony and abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said to him, ’You must pay attention to the destitute to satisfy their hunger. Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, says, “Falsehood is not served first or revisited for service.” (34:49)”’

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْجَعْفَرِيِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفُضَيْلِ رَفَعَهُ عَنْهُمْ ( عليهم السلام ) قَالُوا كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِذَا أَكَلَ لَقَّمَ مَنْ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ وَ إِذَا شَرِبَ سَقَى مَنْ عَلَى يَمِينِهِ .


17. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ali ibn Ibrahim al-Ja‘fariy from Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl in a marfu‘ manner has said, the following: “’A’immah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, have said that the Holy Prophet, when eating would eat from what was in front of (nearest to) him, and when drinking would offer water to one on his right side.’”

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عِدَّةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ سَالِمٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) لَا تُؤْوُوا مِنْدِيلَ الْغَمَرِ فِي الْبَيْتِ فَإِنَّهُ مَرْبِضٌ لِلشَّيَاطِينِ.


18. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from a number of our people have narrated from Ali ibn Asbat from Ya‘qub ibn Salim in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Do not leave a food-stained towel at home without its being washed; it becomes plaything for Satan.’”

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) أَطْرِفُوا أَهَالِيَكُمْ فِي كُلِّ جُمُعَةٍ بِشَيْ‏ءٍ مِنَ الْفَاكِهَةِ أَوِ اللَّحْمِ حَتَّى يَفْرَحُوا بِالْجُمُعَةِ .


19. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Every Friday present fruits to your family or meat, so that they become happy because of Friday.’”

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) مَنْ بَنَى مَسْكَناً فَلْيَذْبَحْ كَبْشاً سَمِيناً وَ لْيُطْعِمْ لَحْمَهُ الْمَسَاكِينَ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ ادْحَرْ عَنِّي مَرَدَةَ الْجِنِّ وَ الْإِنْسِ وَ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي بُيُوتِنَا إِلَّا أُعْطِيَ مَا سَأَلَ .


20. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Whoever builds a house should slaughter a healthy ram and feed its meat to the destitute. He then should say, ‘O Lord, drive away from me defiant ones of Jinn and men and Shayatin and bless for us our homes,’ whatever he asks will be granted.’”

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنِ الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِذَا أَكَلْتَ شَيْئاً فَاسْتَلْقِ عَلَى قَفَاكَ وَ ضَعْ رِجْلَكَ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى الْيُسْرَى .


21. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘When you eat [something], then lie down on your back, then place your right leg on your left leg.’”
