Hadith #1

1- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الْمَاضِي (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ إِنِّي تَزَوَّجْتُ امْرَأَةً فَوَجَدْتُ امْرَأَةً قَدْ أَرْضَعَتْنِي وَأَرْضَعَتْ أُخْتَهَا قَالَ فَقَالَ كَمْ قَالَ قُلْتُ شَيْئاً يَسِيراً قَالَ بَارَكَ اللهُ لَكَ.

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from ‘ Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah who has said the following: “I once said to abu al-Hassan, al-Madiy (previous), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, that I have married a woman and found out that she had breastfed me and had breastfed her sister. He (the narrator) has said that he (the Imam) asked, ‘How much had she done so? 5 I replied, ‘It was a little.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘May Allah make it a blessing for you.’”



Hadith #2

2- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ غَيْرِ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) فِي رَجُلٍ تَزَوَّجَ أُخْتَ أَخِيهِ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ فَقَالَ مَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَتَزَوَّجَ أُخْتَ أَخِي مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ.

2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from more than one person from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “About the case of a man who married the sister of his brother of breastfeeding, abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘I do not like one’s marriage to the sister of his brother of breastfeeding.’”



Hadith #3

3- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنِ الْعَبْدِ الصَّالِحِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ أَرْضَعَتْ أُمِّي جَارِيَةً بِلَبَنِي قَالَ هِيَ أُخْتُكَ مِنَ الرَّضَاعِ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ فَتَحِلُّ لأخِي مِنْ أُمِّي لَمْ تُرْضِعْهَا بِلَبَنِهِ يَعْنِي لَيْسَ بِهَذَا الْبَطْنِ وَلَكِنْ بِبَطْنٍ آخَرَ قَالَ وَالْفَحْلُ وَاحِدٌ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ هِيَ أُخْتِي لأبِي وَأُمِّي قَالَ اللَّبَنُ لِلْفَحْلِ صَارَ أَبُوكَ أَبَاهَا وَأُمُّكَ أُمَّهَا.

3. Muhammad ibn ‘Isma’il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan from Safwan ibn Yahya who has said the following: “This is concerning my question before Allah’s virtuous servant, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of my mother who has breastfed a girl along with me. He (the Imam) said, ‘She is your sister of breastfeeding.’ I then asked if she is lawful for my brother from my mother’s side whom she has not breastfed with his milk, that is not from this pregnancy but from another pregnancy. He (the Imam) asked, ‘Is the ‘impregnating agent’ (husband) one?’ I replied, ‘Yes, she is my sister from my parents.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Because of the milk of “impregnating agent” your father has become her father and your mother her mother.’”



Hadith #4

4- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ لَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلا تَزَوَّجَ جَارِيَةً رَضِيعاً فَأَرْضَعَتْهَا امْرَأَتُهُ فَسَدَ نِكَاحُهُ قَالَ وَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ امْرَأَةِ رَجُلٍ أَرْضَعَتْ جَارِيَةً أَتَصْلُحُ لِوَلَدِهِ مِنْ غَيْرِهَا قَالَ لا قُلْتُ فَنُزِّلَتْ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الأخْتِ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ قَالَ نَعَمْ مِنْ قِبَلِ الأبِ.

4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If a man marries a small girl and she is breastfed by his wife his marriage becomes invalid.’ I then asked about the case of woman of a man who breastfeeds a girl; if her sons from another husband can marry her (the girl). He (the Imam) said, ‘No, they cannot do so.’ I then asked, ‘Is she like a sister of breastfeeding?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, from the side of the father.’”



Hadith #5

5- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) فَقَالَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنَّ امْرَأَتِي حَلَبَتْ مِنْ لَبَنِهَا فِي مَكُّوكٍ فَأَسْقَتْهُ جَارِيَتِي فَقَالَ أَوْجِعِ امْرَأَتَكَ وَعَلَيْكَ بِجَارِيَتِكَ وَهُوَ هَكَذَا فِي قَضَاءِ عَلِيٍّ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام).

5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that once a man came to ’Amir al-Mu’minin, and said, ‘O ’Amir al-Mu’minin, my wife drained her milk in a bowl and made my slave-girl to drink it.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Make your woman suffer (judicially applicable punishment) and keep your slave- girl’. This is how it is in the judgment of Ali, ‘Alayhi al-Salam.”’



Hadith #6

6- عَلِيٌّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ وَعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) فِي رَجُلٍ تَزَوَّجَ جَارِيَةً صَغِيرَةً فَأَرْضَعَتْهَا امْرَأَتُهُ أَوْ أُمُّ وَلَدِهِ قَالَ تَحْرُمُ عَلَيْهِ.

6. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “About the case of a man who marries a small girl and his wife breastfeeds her or the mother of his children, abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘She becomes unlawful for him.’”



Hadith #7

7- عَلِيٌّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ الرَّضَاعُ الَّذِي يُنْبِتُ اللَّحْمَ وَالدَّمَ هُوَ الَّذِي يَرْضِعُ حَتَّى يَتَمَلَّى وَيَتَضَلَّعَ وَيَنْتَهِيَ نَفْسُهُ.

7. Ali has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Breastfeeding that grows flesh and blood is the one that he drinks until he feels weary and disinterested and his breath ends.”’



Hadith #8

8- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي يَحْيَى الْحَنَّاطِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) إِنَّ ابْنِي وَابْنَةَ أَخِي فِي حَجْرِي وَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أُزَوِّجَهَا إِيَّاهُ فَقَالَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِي إِنَّا قَدْ أَرْضَعْنَاهُمَا قَالَ فَقَالَ كَمْ قُلْتُ مَا أَدْرِي قَالَ فَأَدْرَانِي عَلَى أَنْ أُوَقِّتَ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ مَا أَدْرِي قَالَ فَقَالَ زَوِّجْهُ.

8. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from abu Yahya al-Hannat who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, that my son and the daughter of my brother are in my care and I want to arrange marriage between them but certain ones of my family has said that she has breastfed both of them. He (the Imam) asked, ’How much breastfeeding has taken place?’ I replied, ’I do not know.’ He (the Imam) said, ’Inform me so then I determine.’ He (the narrator) has said, that I then said, ’I do not know.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You can arrange marriage between them.’”



Hadith #9

9- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ تَزْعُمُ أَنَّهَا أَرْضَعَتِ الْمَرْأَةَ وَالْغُلامَ ثُمَّ تُنْكِرُ قَالَ تُصَدَّقُ إِذَا أَنْكَرَتْ قُلْتُ فَإِنَّهَا قَالَتْ وَادَّعَتْ بَعْدُ بِأَنِّي قَدْ أَرْضَعْتُهُمَا قَالَ لا تُصَدَّقُ وَلا تُنَعَّمُ.

9. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘ Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of a woman who alleges that she has breastfed a woman and a boy, then she denies. He (the Imam) asked, ‘Do you accept her words of denial?’ I replied, ‘She said it and alleged that she has breastfed them.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You must not accept or say yes to her words.’”



Hadith #10

10- عَلِيٌّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ لا يَصْلُحُ لِلْمَرْأَةِ أَنْ يَنْكِحَهَا عَمُّهَا وَلا خَالُهَا مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ.

10. Ali has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘It is not proper for a woman to get married to her paternal or maternal uncle of breastfeeding.’”



Hadith #11

11- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رِئَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ لا تُنْكَحُ الْمَرْأَةُ عَلَى عَمَّتِهَا وَلا عَلَى خَالَتِهَا وَلا عَلَى أُخْتِهَا مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ وَقَالَ إِنَّ عَلِيّاً (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) ذَكَرَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) ابْنَةَ حَمْزَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) أَ مَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّهَا ابْنَةُ أَخِي مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) وَعَمُّهُ حَمْزَةُ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَدْ رَضَعَا مِنِ امْرَأَةٍ.

11. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from ibn Ri’ab from abu ‘Ubaydah who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘You must not marry a woman as a second wife, the first being her paternal aunt, maternal aunt of breastfeeding or her sister of breastfeeding. He (the Imam) said that Ali ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that daughter of Hamzah was mentioned before the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, and he (the Messenger of Allah) said, “Do you not know that she is daughter of my brother of breastfeeding?” The Messenger of Allah and his uncle Hamzah were breastfed by one woman.’”



Hadith #12

12- حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الْمِيثَمِيِّ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ دَرَّ لَبَنُهَا مِنْ غَيْرِ وِلادَةٍ فَأَرْضَعَتْ جَارِيَةً وَغُلاماً بِذَلِكَ اللَّبَنِ هَلْ يَحْرُمُ بِذَلِكَ اللَّبَنِ مَا يَحْرُمُ مِنَ الرَّضَاعِ قَالَ لا.

12. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad from Ahmad ibn al-Hassan al-Mithamiy from Yunus ibn Ya’qub who has said the following: “This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of a woman who allows her milk without giving birth and breastfeeds a girl or a boy with that milk; if because of such milk the unlawfulness on account of breastfeeding comes into existence. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, unlawfulness does not come into existence.’”



Hadith #13

13- عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمَّادٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَهْزِيَارَ رَوَاهُ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قِيلَ لَهُ إِنَّ رَجُلا تَزَوَّجَ بِجَارِيَةٍ صَغِيرَةٍ فَأَرْضَعَتْهَا امْرَأَتُهُ ثُمَّ أَرْضَعَتْهَا امْرَأَةٌ لَهُ أُخْرَى فَقَالَ ابْنُ شُبْرُمَةَ حَرُمَتْ عَلَيْهِ الْجَارِيَةُ وَامْرَأَتَاهُ فَقَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) أَخْطَأَ ابْنُ شُبْرُمَةَ حَرُمَتْ عَلَيْهِ الْجَارِيَةُ وَامْرَأَتُهُ الَّتِي أَرْضَعَتْهَا أَوَّلا فَأَمَّا الأخِيرَةُ فَلَمْ تَحْرُمْ عَلَيْهِ كَأَنَّهَا أَرْضَعَتِ ابْنَتَهَا.

13. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Salih ibn abu Hammad from Ali ibn Mahziyar from who has said the following: “Once abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, was asked about the case of a man who married a small girl, then his wife breastfed her, then his other woman breastfed her. Ibn Shubramah has said that the girl and both of his wives become unlawful for him. Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Ibn Shubramah has made a mistake. The girl and his wife who first breastfed her become unlawful but his other wife is not unlawful because her case is like her breastfeeding her own daughter.’”



Hadith #14

14- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) انْهَوْا نِسَاءَكُمْ أَنْ يُرْضِعْنَ يَمِيناً وَشِمَالا فَإِنَّهُنَّ يَنْسَيْنَ.

14. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from af-Nawfafiy from af-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ’Prohibit your wives from breastfeeding many children, left and right, because they forget.’”



Hadith #15

15- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رِبَاطٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ أَوْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِذَا رَضَعَ الْغُلامُ مِنْ نِسَاءٍ شَتَّى فَكَانَ ذَلِكَ عِدَّةً أَوْ نَبَتَ لَحْمُهُ وَدَمُهُ عَلَيْهِ حَرُمَ عَلَيْهِ بَنَاتُهُنَّ كُلُّهُنَّ.

15. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from Ali ibn al-Hassan ibn Ribat from ibn Muskan from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “One of the two Imam, (abu Ja’far or abu ’Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ’If a boy is breastfed by different women and it is up to the required number or his flesh and blood grow, the daughters of all of them become unlawful for him for marriage.’”



Hadith #16

16- عَنْهُ عَنِ ابْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ سُئِلَ وَأَنَا حَاضِرٌ عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ أَرْضَعَتْ غُلاماً مَمْلُوكاً لَهَا مِنْ لَبَنِهَا حَتَّى فَطَمَتْهُ هَلْ لَهَا أَنْ تَبِيعَهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ لا هُوَ ابْنُهَا مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ حَرُمَ عَلَيْهَا بَيْعُهُ وَأَكْلُ ثَمَنِهِ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) قَالَ يَحْرُمُ مِنَ الرَّضَاعِ مَا يَحْرُمُ مِنَ النَّسَبِ.

16. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from ibn Sinan from a man who has said the following: “This is concerning a question before abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, when I was present, about the case of a woman who has breastfed her own slave boy from her milk until weaning; if she can sell him. He (the narrator) has said, that he (the Imam) said, ‘No, because he is her son of breastfeeding. Selling him and consuming his price is unlawful for her.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘Has the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, not said, “Whoever is unlawful for marriage because of lineage is unlawful because breastfeeding.’””



Hadith #17

17- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ خِدَاشٍ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْخَثْعَمِيِّ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ مُوسَى (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) عَنْ أُمِّ وَلَدٍ لِي صَدُوقٍ زَعَمَتْ أَنَّهَا أَرْضَعَتْ جَارِيَةً لِي أُصَدِّقُهَا قَالَ لا.

17. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Salmah ibn al-Khattab from ‘Abd Allah ibn Khidash from Salih ibn ‘Abd Allah al- Khath’amiy who has said the following: “This is concerning my question before abu al-Hassan, Musa, Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of mother of my child who is truthful and who alleges that she has breastfed my slave-girl: if I must accept her word. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, do not accept her word.’”



Hadith #18

18- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ كَتَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) امْرَأَةٌ أَرْضَعَتْ وَلَدَ الرَّجُلِ هَلْ يَحِلُّ لِذَلِكَ الرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَ ابْنَةَ هَذِهِ الْمُرْضِعَةِ أَمْ لا فَوَقَّعَ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) لا لا تَحِلُّ لَهُ.

18. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn Ja’far who has said the following: “I once wrote to abu Muhammad, Alayhi al-Salam, and asked, ‘A woman has breastfed the son of a man; if the man can marry the daughter of breastfeeding woman. He (the Imam) signed the answer, ‘No, he cannot marry because it is not lawful for him.’”
