Muhammad ibn Yaqub, from Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from Amru ibn Uthman, from Ali ibn Abi Abdillah, who said: I heard Abu al-Hasan Musa (al-Kadhim (a.s)), peace be upon him, say: “When Ibrahim, the son of the Messenger of Allah (swt), peace be upon him and his family, passed away, three sunnahs (practices) were established. As for the first, when he (Ismail) died, the sun was eclipsed. So the people said: 'The sun has been eclipsed due to the loss of the son of the Messenger of Allah (swt), peace be upon him and his family.' The Messenger of Allah (swt), peace be upon him and his family, ascended the pulpit, praised Allah (swt) and extolled Him (azj), then said: 'O people, indeed the sun and the moon are two signs from among the signs of Allah (swt). They move according to His (azj) command, obedient to Him (azj). They do not eclipse due to the death of anyone nor for his (Ismail) life. So if either of them is eclipsed, then pray.' Then Prophet (saws) descended and led the people in the prayer of ‘al-Kusuf’ (prayer of eclipse).”
