56. Saying More Than Five Takbir in Salah (Prayer) for a Dead Person

1ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنْ مُثَنَّى بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ صَلَّى رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) عَلَى حَمْزَةَ سَبْعِينَ صَلاَةً.


1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr from al-Muthanna’ ibn al-Walid from Zurarah from who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The Messenger of Allah said seventy Salah (prayers) for Hamzah.’”

2ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ كَبَّرَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) عَلَى سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ وَكَانَ بَدْرِيّاً خَمْسَ تَكْبِيرَاتٍ ثُمَّ مَشَى سَاعَةً ثُمَّ وَضَعَهُ وَكَبَّرَ عَلَيْهِ خَمْسَةً أُخْرَى فَصَنَعَ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى كَبَّرَ عَلَيْهِ خَمْساً وَعِشْرِينَ تَكْبِيرَةً.


2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Um ay r from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, in Salah (prayer) for Sahl ibn Hunayf who was a Badriy, (participant in the battle of Badr) said five Takbir. He (the Imam then walked for a while, then placed him on the ground and said another five Takbir and so on until he had said twenty- five Takbir.’”

3ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ كَبَّرَ رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) عَلَى حَمْزَةَ سَبْعِينَ تَكْبِيرَةً وَكَبَّرَ عَلِيٌّ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عِنْدَكُمْ عَلَى سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ خَمْسَةً وَعِشْرِينَ تَكْبِيرَةً قَالَ كَبَّرَ خَمْساً خَمْساً كُلَّمَا أَدْرَكَهُ النَّاسُ قَالُوا يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لَمْ نُدْرِكِ الصَّلاَةَ عَلَى سَهْلٍ فَيَضَعُهُ فَيُكَبِّرُ عَلَيْهِ خَمْساً حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَى قَبْرِهِ خَمْسَ مَرَّاتٍ.


3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn abu Hamzah from abu Basir from who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The Messenger of Allah in Salah (prayer) for Hamzah said seventy Takbir and ’Amir al-Mu’minin) Ali said twenty five Takbir in Salah (prayer) for Sahl ibn Hunayf. He (the Imam) said, ‘Each time ’Amir al-Mu’minin said five Takbir as new people arrived saying that we did not have a chance to attend Salah (prayer) for him so ’Amir al-Mu’minin would ask to place him on the ground and he (the Imam) say five Takbir until he arrived to his grave.’”
