 أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ یَعْقُوبَ بْنِ یَزِیدَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِی عُمَیْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ الْحَکَمِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: کَانَ رَجُلٌ فِی الزَّمَنِ الْأَوَّلِ طَلَبَ الدُّنْیَا مِنْ حَلَالٍ فَلَمْ یَقْدِرْ عَلَیْهَا فَطَلَبَهَا مِنْ حَرَامٍ فَلَمْ یَقْدِرْ عَلَیْهَا فَأَتَاهُ الشَّیْطَانُ فَقَالَ یَا هَذَا إِنَّکَ قَدْ طَلَبْتَ الدُّنْیَا مِنْ حَلَالٍ فَلَمْ تَقْدِرْ عَلَیْهَا وَ طَلَبْتَهَا مِنْ حَرَامٍ فَلَمْ تَقْدِرْ عَلَیْهَا أَ فَلَا أَدُلُّکَ عَلَی شَیْ ءٍ یَکْثُرُ بِهِ مَالُکَ وَ دُنْیَاکَ وَ تَکْثُرُ بِهِ تَبِعَتُکَ قَالَ بَلَی قَالَ تَبْتَدِعُ دِیناً وَ تَدْعُو إِلَیْهِ النَّاسَ فَفَعَلَ فَاسْتَجَابَ لَهُ النَّاسُ وَ أَطَاعُوهُ وَ أَصَابَ مِنَ الدُّنْیَا ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ فَکَّرَ فَقَالَ بِئْسَ مَا صَنَعْتُ ابْتَدَعْتُ دِیناً وَ دَعَوْتُ النَّاسَ إِلَیْهِ وَ مَا أَرَی لِی تَوْبَهً إِلَّا أَنْ آتِیَ مَنْ دَعَوْتُهُ إِلَیْهِ فَأَرُدَّهُ عَنْهُ فَجَعَلَ یَأْتِی أَصْحَابَهُ الَّذِینَ أَجَابُوهُ فَیَقُولُ إِنَّ الَّذِی دَعَوْتُکُمْ إِلَیْهِ بَاطِلٌ وَ إِنَّمَا ابْتَدَعْتُهُ فَجَعَلُوا یَقُولُونَ کَذَبْتَ هَذَا هُوَ الْحَقُّ وَ لَکِنَّکَ شَکَکْتَ فِی دِینِکَ فَرَجَعْتَ عَنْهُ فَلَمَّا رَأَی ذَلِکَ عَمَدَ إِلَی سِلْسِلَهٍ فَوَتَدَ لَهَا وَتِداً ثُمَّ جَعَلَهَا فِی عُنُقِهِ وَ قَالَ لَا أَحُلُّهَا حَتَّی یَتُوبَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ عَلَیَّ فَأَوْحَی اللَّهُ إِلَی نَبِیٍّ مِنَ الْأَنْبِیَاءِ قُلْ لِفُلَانٍ وَ عِزَّتِی لَوْ دَعَوْتَنِی حَتَّی یَنْقَطِعَ أَوْصَالُکَ مَا اسْتَجَبْتُ لَکَ حَتَّی تَرُدَّ مَنْ مَاتَ مِمَّا دَعَوْتَهُ إِلَیْهِ فَرَجَعَ عَنْهُ.

1. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to me by Sa’d b. Abdillah from Ya’qub b. Yazid from Muhammad b. Abi ’Umayr from Hisham b. al-Hakam from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “There was a man in the former times who sought the worldly matters by permissible means but was not able to. So, he sought it by prohibited means, but he was not able to. So, Satan came up to him and said, ‘O you! You have sought the worldly matters from permissible means, but you were not able to, and sought it by prohibited means but you were not able to. Shall I direct you to a thing by which your world would be abundant, and you would have abundant followers?’ He said, ‘Of course!’ Shaytan said, ‘Innovate a Religion and invite the people towards it’. So, he did it and the people obeyed him, and he secured (a lot) from the world. Then he pondered and said, ‘What thing have I done? I innovated a religion and invited people to it. I do not see repentance for myself except that I should come to the ones I invited and return them back’. So, he went to his companions who had responded to him, and he said, 'Indeed, that which I have invited to is false, but rather it was I who innovated it and made it up’. So, they went on to say, ‘You are lying! But it is the truth, you are doubting in your religion, so you have returned (to falsehood)’. So, when he saw that, he deliberately chained himself, and pegged it to the ground, and chained himself around his neck, and said, 'I will remain in this condition until Allah forgives me’. The Almighty Allah sent one of His prophets to him and told him to convey the message to the person, 'I swear by My honor that I am not going to forgive you even if you repent so much that the joints of your body are cut. If the person wants to be forgiven, he should bring back to life those people who died on his religion and bring them back (to truth).’. 

 حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ عَنْ یَعْقُوبَ بْنِ یَزِیدَ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِیسَی عَنْ حَرِیزٍ یَرْفَعُهُ قَالَ: کُلُّ بِدْعَهٍ ضَلَالَهٌ وَ کُلُّ ضَلَالَهٍ سَبِیلُهَا النَّارُ.

2. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan who said it was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan al-Saffar from Ya’qub b. Yazid from Hamad b. Isa from Hareez who raised it to who said: An infallible Imam says that every innovation is misguidance and every misguidance leads to Hell.

 أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِی خَالِدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ: أَدْنَی الشِّرْکِ أَنْ یَبْتَدِعَ الرَّجُلُ رَأْیاً فَیُحِبَّ عَلَیْهِ وَ یُبْغِضَ.

3. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to me by Sa’d b. Abdillah from Ahmad b. Abi Abdillah from his father from Muhammad b. Sinan from Abi Khalid from Muhammad b. Muslim from Abi Ja’far (a.s.) who said: “The lowest form of polytheism is to invent a new religion and hate and love according to it.”

 حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَی بْنِ الْمُتَوَکِّلِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْحِمْیَرِیُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ أَبِی الْخَطَّابِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِی حَمْزَهَ الثُّمَالِیِّ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِی جَعْفَرٍ ع مَا أَدْنَی النَّصْبِ فَقَالَ أَنْ یَبْتَدِعَ الرَّجُلُ شَیْئاً فَیُحِبَّ عَلَیْهِ وَ یُبْغِضَ عَلَیْهِ.

4. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakil who said it was narrated to me by Abdillah b. Ja’far al-Himyari from Muhammad b. al-Hussain b. Abi al-Khattab from al-Hassan b. Mahbub from Abdillah b. Sinan from Abi Hamzah al-Thumali who said: Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) was asked, “What is the lowest form of idol-worship?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Creating a new religion and loving and hating people on the basis of it.”

 حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارِ عَنْ یَعْقُوبَ بْنِ یَزِیدَ عَنِ الْعَمِّیِّ بِإِسْنَادِهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص أَبَی اللَّهُ تَعَالَی لِصَاحِبِ الْبِدْعَهِ بِالتَّوْبَهِ قِیلَ یَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَ کَیْفَ ذَلِکَ قَالَ إِنَّهُ قَدْ أُشْرِبَ قَلْبُهُ حُبَّهَا.

5. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. al-Hassan from Muhammad b. al-Hassan al-Saffar from Ya’qub b. Yazid from al-’Ama by his chain who said: “The Almighty Allah will not accept the repentance of a person who starts an innovation.” He was asked, “Why is it so?” He replied, “It is because the person has kept the love of innovation in his heart.”

 أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ الْجَهْمِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: مَنْ مَشَی إِلَی صَاحِبِ بِدْعَهٍ فَوَقَّرَهُ فَقَدْ مَشَی فِی هَدْمِ الْإِسْلَامِ.

6. My father (rah) said: it was narrated to me by Sa’d b. Abdillah from Ahmad b. Abi Abdillah from his father from Harun b. al-Jahm from Ja’far b. Umar from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “A person who takes a single step towards a person who does innovation and respects him is certainly like a person who has taken a step to destroy Islam.”
