Ḥadīth 1

حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِیٍّ مَاجِیلَوَیْهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ یَحْیَی عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَیْنِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ بَشِیرٍ عَنْ دَاوُدَ الرَّقِّیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: إِنَّ الْقَصْدَ أَمْرٌ یُحِبُّهُ اللَّهُ وَ إِنَّ السَّرَفَ أَمْرٌ یُبْغِضُهُ اللَّهُ حَتَّی طَرْحُکَ النَّوَاهَ فَإِنَّهَا تَصْلُحُ لِشَیْ ءٍ وَ حَتَّی صَبُّکَ فَضْلَ شَرَابِکَ.

1. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Ali Majluwayh from Muhammad b. Yahya from Muhammad b. Ahmad from Muhammad b. al-Hussain from Ja’far b. Basheer from Dawud al-Raqqi from Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: “Moderation is best liked by Allah and He does not like extravagance even though it be equal to a few seeds of dates and a little leftover water.”
