21. Regarding the imam (asws), he (asws) knows the time in which he (asws) would pass away, and what is increased during the night and the day, and he (asws) is not left to himself (asws)

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ يَزِيدَ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِذَا مَضَى الْإِمَامُ يُفْضِي مِنْ عِلْمِهِ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ الَّتِي يَمْضِي فِيهَا إِلَى الْإِمَامِ الْقَائِمِ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ مِثْلُ مَا كَانَ يَعْلَمُ الْمَاضِي قَالَ وَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ يُورَثُ كُتُباً وَ لَا يُوكَلُ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ وَ يُزَادُ فِي لَيْلِهِ وَ نَهَارِهِ‏.


1. It is narrated to us by Ibn Yazeed, from Ibn Mahboub, from Umar Bin Yazeed who said, ‘I said to Abu Abdullah (a.s.), ‘When the Imam (a.s.) passes away, does from his (a.s.) contributively during the night in which he (a.s.) passes away, to the Imam (a.s.) standing from after him (a.s.), like what the past one (a.s.) had known?’ He (a.s.) said: ‘And whatever Allah (azwj) so Desires from that. He (a.s.) inherits Book and is not Left to himself (a.s.), and is increased during his (a.s.) nights and his (a.s.) days’’.




حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْأَهْوَازِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ يُونُسَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع الْإِمَامُ إِذَا مَاتَ يَعْلَمُ الَّذِي بَعْدَهُ فِي تِلْكَ السَّاعَةِ مِثْلَ عِلْمِهِ قَالَ يُورَثُ كُتُباً وَ يُزَادُ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ وَ لَيْلَةٍ وَ لَا يُوكَلُ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ‏.


2. It is narrated to us by Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Al Ahwazy, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Mansour Bin Yunus, from Abu Baseer who said, ‘I said to Abu Abdullah (a.s.), ‘The Imam (a.s.), when he (a.s.) passes away, teaches the one (a.s.) to be after him (a.s.) during that moment, similar to his (a.s.) knowledge?’ He (a.s.) said: ‘He (a.s.) inherits Books and is increased during every day and night, and is not Left to himself (a.s.)’’.




حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ يَزِيدَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع جَعَلَنِيَ اللَّهُ فِدَاكَ الْعَالِمُ مِنْكُمْ يَمْضِي فِي الْيَوْمِ أَوْ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ أَوْ فِي السَّاعَةِ يُخَلِّفُهُ الْعَالِمُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ فِي ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ أَوْ فِي تِلْكَ السَّاعَةِ يَعْلَمُ مِثْلَ عِلْمِهِ قَالَ يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ يُورَثُ كُتُباً وَ يُزَادُ فِي اللَّيْلِ وَ النَّهَارِ وَ لَا يَكِلُهُ اللَّهُ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ‏.


3. It is narrated to us by Ibn Yazeed from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Mansour, from Abu Baseer who said, ‘I said to Abu Abdullah (a.s.), ‘May Allah (azwj) Make me to be sacrificed for you (a.s.)! The knowledge from you (Imams (a.s.)) continues during the day or during the night or during the hour the Imam (a.s.) after him (a.s.) replaces him (a.s.) during that day, or during that hour, he (a.s.) gets to know like his (a.s.) knowledge?’ He (a.s.) said: ‘O Abu Muhammad! He (a.s.) inherits books, and is increased during the night and the day, and Allah (azwj) does not Leave him (a.s.) to himself (a.s.)’’.




حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ هِلَالٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الصَّبَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَكُونُ أَنْ يُفْضِيَ هَذَا الْأَمْرُ إِلَى مَنْ لَمْ يَبْلُغْ قَالَ نَعَمْ قُلْتُ مَا يَصْنَعُ قَالَ يُورَثُ كُتُباً وَ لَا يَكِلُهُ اللَّهُ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ‏.


4. It is narrated to us by Al Hassan Bin Ali, from Ahmad Bin Hilal, from Abu Malik Al Hazramy, from Abu Al Sabbah, from Abu Baseer who said, ‘I said to Abu Abdullah (a.s.), ‘Can this Command depart to one (a.s.) not yet having attained adulthood?’ He (a.s.) said: ‘Yes’. I said, ‘What happens?’ He (a.s.) said: ‘He (a.s.) inherits Book and Allah (azwj) does not Leave him (a.s.) to himself (a.s.)’’.




حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِذَا مَضَى الْإِمَامُ يُفْضِي مِنْ عِلْمِهِ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ الَّتِي يَمْضِي فِيهَا إِلَى الْإِمَامِ الْقَائِمِ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ مِثْلَ مَا كَانَ يَعْلَمُ الْمَاضِي قَالَ أَوْ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ يُورَثُ كُتُباً وَ لَا يُوكَلُ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ وَ يُزَادُ فِي لَيْلِهِ وَ نَهَارِهِ.


5. It is narrated to us by Muhammad Bin Abdul Hameed, from Muhammad Bin Umar Bin Yazeed, from Al hassan Bin Umar, from his father who said, ‘I said to Abu Abdullah (a.s.), ‘When the Imam (a.s.) passes away, does he (a.s.) transfer his (a.s.) knowledge during the night in which he (a.s.) passes away to the Imam (a.s.) to stand from after him (a.s.), similar to what the past Imam (a.s.) had done?’ He (a.s.) said: ‘Or whatever Allah (azwj) so Desires from that, inheriting Book, and is not left to himself (a.s.), and is increased during his (a.s.) night and his (a.s.) day’’.




حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ هِلَالٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الصَّبَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَكُونُ أَنْ يُفْضِيَ هَذَا الْأَمْرُ إِلَى مَنْ لَمْ يَبْلُغْ قَالَ نَعَمْ قُلْتُ مَا يَصْنَعُ قَالَ يُورَثُ كُتُباً وَ لَا يَكِلُهُ اللَّهُ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ.


6. It is narrated to us by Al Hassan Bin Ali, from Ahmad Bin Hilal, from Abu Malik Al Hazrami, from Abu Al Sabbah, from Abu Baseer who said, ‘I said to Abu Abdullah (a.s.), ‘Can it happen that this command is transferred to one (a.s.) not yet reached puberty?’ He (a.s.) said: ‘Yes’. I said, ‘What is done?’ He (a.s.) inherits the Books, and Allah (azwj) does not Leave him (a.s.) to himself’’.




حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ السَّرَّاجِ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع مَتَى يَمْضِي‏ الْإِمَامُ حَتَّى يُؤَدِّيَ عِلْمَهُ إِلَى مَنْ يَقُومُ مَقَامَهُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَا يَمْضِي الْإِمَامُ حَتَّى يُعَلِّمَهُ إِلَى مَنِ انْتَجَبَهُ اللَّهُ‏ وَ لَكِنْ يَكُونُ صَامِتاً مَعَهُ فَإِذَا مَضَى وَلِيُّ الْعِلْمِ نَطَقَ بِهِ مَنْ بَعْدَهُ‏.


7. It is narrated to us by Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ibn Mahboub, from Yaqoub Al Sarraj who said, ‘I asked Abu Abdullah (a.s.), ‘(Until) when does the Imam (a.s.) continue until he (a.s.) deposits his (a.s.) knowledge to the one (a.s.) to be standing in his (a.s.) position from after him (a.s.)?’ He (a.s.) said: ‘The Imam (a.s.) does not pass away until he (a.s.) teaches to the one (a.s.) Allah (azwj) Selects, but he (a.s.) becomes silent with him (a.s.). So, when he (a.s.) does pass away, the one (a.s.) in charge of the knowledge, the one (a.s.) after him (a.s.) speaks with it’’.




حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ نُعْمَانَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ هُوَ يَقُولُ‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَكِلُنَا إِلَى أَنْفُسِنَا وَ لَوْ وَكَلَنَا إِلَى أَنْفُسِنَا لَكُنَّا كَعَرْضِ النَّاسِ‏ وَ نَحْنُ الَّذِينَ‏ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَ‏ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ‏.


8. It is narrated to us by Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ibn Sinan, from Muhammad Bin Numan who said, ‘I heard Abu Abdullah (a.s.) and he (a.s.) said: ‘Allah (azwj) does not Leave us (a.s.) to ourselves (a.s.), and had He (azwj) Left us (a.s.) to ourselves, we would be like the ordinary people, and we (a.s.) are those Allah (azwj) Mighty and Majestic Said: “Supplicate to Me, I will Answer you. [40:60]’’.




حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ نُعْمَانَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ هُوَ يَقُولُ‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَكِلُنَا إِلَى أَنْفُسِنَا وَ لَوْ وَكَلَنَا إِلَى أَنْفُسِنَا لَكُنَّا كَعَرْضِ النَّاسِ‏ وَ نَحْنُ الَّذِينَ‏ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَ‏ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ‏.


9. It is narrated to us by Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ibn Sinan, from Muhammad Bin Numan who said, ‘I heard Abu Abdullah (a.s.) and he (a.s.) said: ‘Allah (azwj) does not Leave us (a.s.) to ourselves (a.s.), and had He (azwj) Left us (a.s.) to ourselves, we would be like the ordinary people, and we (a.s.) are those Allah (azwj) Mighty and Majestic Said: “Supplicate to Me, I will Answer you. [40:60]’’.




أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ مُوسَى عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الرَّازِيِّ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ع قَالَ: قُلْتُ لَهُ إِنَّ أَبِي حَدَّثَنِي عَنْ جَدِّكَ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَهُ عَنِ الْإِمَامِ مَتَى يُفْضِي إِلَيْهِ عِلْمُ صَاحِبِهِ فَقَالَ فِي السَّاعَةِ الَّتِي يُقْبَضُ فِيهَا يَصِيرُ [إِلَيْهِ‏] عِلْمُ صَاحِبِهِ فَقَالَ هُوَ أَوْ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ يُورَثُ كُتُباً وَ لَا يُوكَلُ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ وَ يُزَادُ فِي اللَّيْلِ وَ النَّهَارِ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ عِنْدَكَ تِلْكَ الْكُتُبُ وَ ذَلِكَ الْمِيرَاثُ فَقَالَ إِي وَ اللَّهِ أَنْظُرُ فِيهَا.


10. Abu Muhammad, from Imran Bin Musa, from Abu Abdullah Al Razy, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Al Husayn Bin Umar Bin Yazeed, ‘From Abu Al-Hassan (a.s.), he (the narrator) said, ‘I said to him (a.s.), ‘My father narrated to me from your (a.s.) grandfather (a.s.) that he asked him (a.s.) about the Imam (a.s.), ‘When does the knowledge of his (a.s.) companion (a.s.) departs to him (a.s.)?’ He (a.s.) said: ‘The time in which he (a.s.) passes away, the knowledge of his (a.s.) companion (a.s.) comes to him (a.s.). Either it, or whatever Allah (azwj) so Desires. He (a.s.) inherits Books and is not Left to himself (a.s.), and is increased during the night and the day’. I said to him (a.s.), ‘Are those Books with you (a.s.), and that is the inheritance?’ He (a.s.) said: ‘Yes, by Allah (azwj)! I (a.s.) do look into these’’.
