5. Regarding the imams (asws), they are narrated to, understanding ones

حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ بَزِيعٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ع يَقُولُ‏ الْأَئِمَّةُ عُلَمَاءُ صَادِقُونَ مُفَهَّمُونَ مُحَدَّثُونَ.


1. It is narrated to us by Yaqoub Bin Yazeed, from Muhammad Bin ismail Bin Bazie who said, ‘I heard Abu Al-Hassan (a.s.) saying: ‘The Imams (a.s.) are the scholars, ratifiers, understanding ones, narrated to/updated’’.




حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو طَالِبٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى قَالَ: كُنْتُ أَنَا وَ أَبُو بَصِيرٍ وَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ مَوْلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ بِمَنْزِلِهِ مَكَّةَ قَالَ فَقَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ نَحْنُ اثْنَا عَشَرَ مُحَدَّثاً قَالَ لَهُ أَبُو بَصِيرٍ وَ اللَّهِ لَسَمِعْتَ مِنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ فَحَلَّفَهُ مَرَّةً وَ اثْنَتَيْنِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعْتُ قَالَ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَصِيرٍ كَذَا سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع يَقُولُ.


2. It is narrated to us by Abu Talib, from Usman Bin Isa who said, ‘I, and Abu Baseer, and Muhammad Bin Imran a slave of Abu Ja’far (a.s.) at his house. Muhammad Bin Imran said, ‘I heard Abu Abdullah (a.s.) saying: ‘We (a.s.) are twelve Muhaddith (narrated to/updated)’. Abu Baseer said to him, ‘By Allah ! I heard from Abu Abdullah (a.s.) (as well)’. He oathed to him once and twice that he did hear it. Abu Baseer said, I had heard Abu Ja’far (a.s.) saying so (as well)’’.




حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ جَمِيلِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ سُوقَةَ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ ع يَوْماً فَقَالَ لِي يَا حَكَمُ هَلْ تَدْرِي مَا الْآيَةُ الَّتِي كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ يَعْرِفُ بِهَا صَاحِبَ قَتْلِهِ وَ يَعْلَمُ بِهَا الْأُمُورَ الْعِظَامَ الَّتِي كَانَ يُحَدِّثُ بِهَا النَّاسَ قَالَ الْحَكَمُ فَقُلْتُ فِي نَفْسِي قَدْ وَقَفْتُ عَلَى عِلْمٍ مِنْ عِلْمِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ أَعْلَمُ بِذَلِكَ تِلْكَ الْأُمُورَ الْعِظَامَ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لَا وَ اللَّهِ لَا أَعْلَمُ بِهِ أَخْبِرْنِي بِهَا يَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ قَالَ هُوَ وَ اللَّهِ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ وَ مَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولٍ وَ لَا نَبِيٍ‏ وَ لَا مُحَدَّثٍ


3. It is narrated to us by Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ibn Mahboub, from Jameel Bin Salih, from Ziyad in Sowqat, from Al Hakam Bin Uyayna who said, ‘I entered to see Ali (a.s.) Bin Al-Husayn (a.s.) one day and he (a.s.) said to me: ‘O Hakam! Do you know what the sign by which Ali (a.s.) Bin Abu Talib (a.s.) used to recognise the one who would be killing him (a.s.), and by it he (a.s.) knew the great matters which had happened, narrating to the people with it?’ Al-Hakam said, ‘I said within myself, ‘I had paused upon the knowledge from the knowledge of Ali (a.s.) Bin Al-Husayn (a.s.) is more knowing with that, those great matters’, so I said: ‘No, by Allah , I am not knowing with it. Inform me with it, O son (a.s.) of Rasool-Allah (saww)! He (a.s.) said: ‘By Allah it is the Word of Allah : And We did not Send a Rasool or a Prophet, or a Muhaddith before you [22:52]’. ‏ فَقُلْتُ وَ كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ مُحَدَّثاً قَالَ نَعَمْ وَ كُلُّ إِمَامٍ مِنَّا أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ فَهُوَ مُحَدَّثٌ. I said, ‘And Ali (a.s.) Bin Abu Talib (a.s.) was a Muhaddith?’ He (a.s.) said: ‘Yes, and every Imam (a.s.) from us (a.s.), People (a.s.) of the Household, he (a.s.) is a Muhaddith’’.




حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَسَّانَ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ بَكْرٍ عَنْ حُمْرَانَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‏ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِي اثْنَا عَشَرَ مُحَدَّثاً فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ زَيْدٍ كَانَ أَخَا عَلِيٍ‏ لِأُمِّهِ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهُ كَانَ مُحَدَّثاً كَالْمُنْكِرِ لِذَلِكَ‏ فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع فَقَالَ أَمَا وَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ ابْنَ أُمِّكَ بَعْدُ قَدْ كَانَ يَعْرِفُ ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَلَمَّا قَالَ ذَلِكَ سَكَتَ الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع هِيَ الَّتِي هَلَكَ فِيهَا أَبُو الْخَطَّابِ لَمْ يَدْرِ تَأْوِيلَ الْمُحَدَّثِ وَ النَّبِيِ.


4. It is narrated to us by Ali Bin Hassan, from Musa Bin Bakr, from Humran, ‘From Abu Ja’far (a.s.) having said: ‘Rasool-Allah (saww) said: ‘From the People (a.s.) of my (saww) Household, there are twelve Muhaddith (Narrated to/updated)’. Abdullah Bin Zayd said to him (a.s.), and he was a brother to me from his mother’s side, ‘Glory be to Allah ! Muhaddith!’ As if he was a denier of that. Abu Ja’far (a.s.) turned towards him and said: ‘But, by Allah ! Your cousin afterwards had recognised that’. When he (a.s.) said that, the man was silent, so Abu Ja’far (a.s.) said: ‘It is regarding which Abu Al-Khattab was destroyed. He did not know the interpretation of the Muhaddith and the Prophet (saww)’’.




حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْخَشَّابِ عَنِ ابْنِ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رِبَاطٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أُذَيْنَةَ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع يَقُولُ‏ الِاثْنَا عَشَرَ الْأَئِمَّةُ مِنْ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كُلُّهُمْ مُحَدَّثٌ مِنْ وُلْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص وَ وُلْدِ عَلِيٍّ- فَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَ عَلِيٌّ ع هُمَا الْوَالِدَانِ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ زَيْدٍ وَ أَنْكَرَ ذَلِكَ وَ كَانَ أَخاً لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ لِأُمِّهِ فَضَرَبَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع فَخِذَهُ فَقَالَ أَمَّا ابْنُ أُمِّكَ كَانَ أَحَدَهُمْ‏.


5. It is narrated to us by Abdullah Bin Al Khashab, from Ibn Sama’at, from Ali Bin Rabat, from Ibn Uzina, from Zurara who said, ‘I heard Abu Ja’far (a.s.) saying: ‘The twelve Imams (a.s.) from the Progeny (a.s.) of Muhammad (saww), all of them are Muhaddith, from the sons (a.s.) of Rasool-Allah (saww) and sons (a.s.) of Ali (a.s.). They (a.s.) (Rasool-Allah (saww) and Ali (a.s.) Ibn Abi Talib (a.s.)) are both the fathers (a.s.)’ (of all believers). Abdul Rahman Bin Zayd spoke and denied that, and he was a brother of Ali (a.s.) Bin Al-Husayn (a.s.) to his (a.s.) mother (as). Abu Ja’far (a.s.) struck his (a.s.) thing and said: ‘But your (a.s.) cousin was one (a.s.) of them (a.s.)’’.




حَدَّثَنَا ائر الدرجات مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا ع قَالَ: كَانَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع مُحَدَّثاً.


6. It is narrated to us by Muhammad Bin Al Husayn, from Safwan Bin Yahya, ‘From Abu Al-Hassan Al-Ridha (a.s.) having said: ‘Abu Ja’far (a.s.) was a Muhaddith’’.




حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحَجَّالِ أَوْ غَيْرِهِ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ: أَرْسَلَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع إِلَى زُرَارَةَ أَعْلِمِ‏ الْحَكَمَ بْنَ عُيَيْنَةَ أَنَّ أَوْصِيَاءَ عَلِيٍّ مُحَدَّثُونَ‏.


7. It is narrated to us by Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Al Hajjal, or someone else from Al Qasim Bin Muhammad, from Zurara who said, ‘Abu Ja’far (a.s.) sent a message to Zurara: ‘Let Al-Hakam Bin Uyayna know that the successors (a.s.) of Ali (a.s.) are Muhaddith’’.




حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ يُونُسَ الْحَجَّالِ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ حَسَنٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ وَ مَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولٍ وَ لَا نَبِيٍّ وَ لَا مُحَدَّثٍ.


8. It is narrate to us by Abdullah Bin Muhammad, from Ibrahim Bin Muhammad Al Saqafy, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Al Saqafy, from Ahmad Bin Yunus Al Hajjal, from Ayoub Bin Hassan, from Qatada, ‘He used to recited: And We did not Send any Rasool or a Prophet or a Muhaddith before you [22:52]’’.
