14. Regarding the imams (asws), with them (asws) is the original knowledge what is inherited from the prophet (saww), they (asws) are not speaking with their (asws) opinions

حَدَّثَنَا حَمْزَةُ بْنُ يَعْلَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ النَّضْرِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شِمْرٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع قَالَ: يَا جَابِرُ إِنَّا لَوْ كُنَّا نُحَدِّثُكُمْ بِرَأْيِنَا وَ هَوَانَا لَكُنَّا مِنَ الْهَالِكِينَ وَ لَكِنَّا نُحَدِّثُكُمْ بِأَحَادِيثَ نَكْنِزُهَا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص كَمَا يَكْنِزُ هَؤُلَاءِ ذَهَبُهُمْ وَ فِضَّتُهُمْ.


1. It is narrated to us by Hamza Bin Ya’la, from Ahmad Bin Al Nazar, from Amro Bin Shimr, from Jabir, ‘From Abu Ja’far (a.s.) having said: ‘O Jabir! If we (a.s.) had been narrating to you all by our (a.s.) opinions and our (a.s.) whims, we (a.s.) would be from the destroyed ones, but we (a.s.) are narrating to you all by Ahadeeth we (a.s.) had treasured from Rasool-Allah (saww), just as they (other people) are treasuring their gold and their silver’’.




حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أُذَيْنَةَ عَنِ الْفُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع أَنَّهُ قَالَ: لَوْ أَنَّا حَدَّثْنَا بِرَأْيِنَا ضَلَلْنَا كَمَا ضَلَّ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَنَا وَ لَكِنَّا حَدَّثْنَا بِبَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّنَا بَيَّنَهَا لِنَبِيِّهِ فَبَيَّنَهَا لَنَا.


2. It is narrated to us by Yaqoub Bin Yazeed, from Muhammad Bin Abu Umeyr, from Amro Bin Uzina, from Al Fuzeyl Bin Yasaar, ‘From Abu Ja’far (a.s.) having said: ‘If we (a.s.) were to narrate by our (a.s.) opinions, we (a.s.) would stray just as the ones before us have stray, but we (a.s.) are narrating by an Explanation from our (a.s.) Lord He Had Explained it to His Prophet (saww), and he (saww) explained it to us (a.s.)’’.




حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَجَّالِ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي يَزِيدَ الْأَحْوَلِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ‏ إِنَّا لَوْ كُنَّا نُفْتِي النَّاسَ بِرَأْيِنَا وَ هَوَانَا لَكُنَّا مِنَ الْهَالِكِينَ وَ لَكِنَّهَا آثَارٌ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص أصل [وَ أُصُولِ‏] عِلْمٍ نَتَوَارَثُهَا كَابِرٌ عَنْ كَابِرٍ نَكْنِزُهَا كَمَا يَكْنِزُ النَّاسُ ذَهَبَهُمْ وَ فِضَّتَهُمْ.


3. It is narrated to us by Abdullah Bin Aamir, from Abdullah Bin Muhammad Al Hajjal, from Dawood Bin Abu Yazeed Al Ahowl, ‘From Abu Abdullah (a.s.), he (the narrator) said, ‘I heard him (a.s.) saying: ‘If we (a.s.) were to issue Fatwas (verdicts) to the people by our (a.s.) opinion and our (a.s.) whims, we (a.s.) would be from the destroyed ones, but these are Ahadeeth from Rasool-Allah (saww), original knowledge. We (a.s.) inherit it, an elder from an elder. We (a.s.) treasure these just as the people treasure their gold and their silver’’.




حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع‏ يَا جَابِرُ لَوْ كُنَّا نُفْتِي النَّاسَ بِرَأْيِنَا وَ هَوَانَا لَكُنَّا مِنَ الْهَالِكِينَ وَ لَكِنَّا نُفْتِيهِمْ بِآثَارٍ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص وَ أُصُولِ عِلْمٍ عِنْدَنَا نَتَوَارَثُهَا كَابِرٌ عَنْ كَابِرٍ نَكْنِزُهَا كَمَا يَكْنِزُ هَؤُلَاءِ ذَهَبَهُمْ وَ فِضَّتَهُمْ.


4. It is narrated to us by Muhammad, from Al Husayn Bin Saeed, from Al Qasim, from Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Jabir who said, ‘Abu Ja’far (a.s.) said: ‘O Jabir! If we (a.s.) were to issue Fatwas (verdicts) to the people by our (a.s.) opinions and our (a.s.) whims, we (a.s.) would be from the destroyed ones, but we (a.s.) issue verdicts to them with the Ahadeeth from Rasool-Allah and the principles of knowledge with us (a.s.). We (a.s.) inherit these, elder from an elder. We (a.s.) treasure it just as they (other people) treasure their gold and their silver’’.




حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‏ وَ اللَّهِ لَوْ لَا أَنَّ اللَّهَ فَرَضَ وَلَايَتَنَا وَ مَوَدَّتَنَا وَ قَرَابَتَنَا مَا أَدْخَلْنَاكُمْ بُيُوتَنَا وَ لَا أَوْقَفْنَاكُمْ عَلَى أَبْوَابِنَا وَ اللَّهِ مَا نَقُولُ بِأَهْوَائِنَا وَ لَا نَقُولُ بِرَأْيِنَا إِلَّا مَا قَالَ رَبُّنَا.


5. It is narrated to us by Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ali Bin Al Numan, from Fuzeyl Bin Usman, from Muhammad Bin Shureyh who said, ‘I heard Abu Abdullah (a.s.) saying: ‘By Allah ! if Allah had not Obligated our (a.s.) Wilayah, and our (a.s.) cordiality, and our (a.s.) kinship, we (a.s.) would not have entered you into our (a.s.) house, nor paused you at our (a.s.) doors. By Allah ! We (a.s.) are not speaking by our (a.s.) whims, nor are we (a.s.) speaking by our (a.s.) opinion, except what our (a.s.) Lord has Said’’.




حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ الثُّمَالِيِّ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع‏ يَا جَابِرُ وَ اللَّهِ لَوْ كُنَّا نُحَدِّثُ النَّاسَ أَوْ حَدَّثْنَاهُمْ بِرَأْيِنَا لَكُنَّا مِنَ الْهَالِكِينَ وَ لَكِنَّا نُحَدِّثُهُمْ بِآثَارٍ عِنْدَنَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص يَتَوَارَثُهَا كَابِرٌ عَنْ كَابِرٍ نَكْنِزُهَا كَمَا يَكْنِزُ هَؤُلَاءِ ذَهَبَهُمْ وَ فِضَّتَهُمْ.


6. It is narrated to us by Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Al Hassan Bin Mahboub, from Abu Hamza Al Sumali, from Jabir who said, ‘O Jabir, by Allah ! If we (a.s.) were to narrated to the people or they were to narrate by our (a.s.) opinions, we (a.s.) would be from the destroyed ones. But, we (a.s.) are narrating to them with the Ahadeeth (which are) with us (a.s.) from Rasool-Allah . An elder inherits these from an elder. We (a.s.) treasure these just as they (people) are treasuring their gold and their silver’’.




حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ مُوسَى عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ قَالَ: قَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع لَوْ لَا أَنَّ اللَّهَ فَرَضَ وَلَايَتَنَا وَ مَوَدَّتَنَا وَ قَرَابَتَنَا مَا أَدْخَلْنَاكُمْ وَ لَا أَوْقَفْنَاكُمْ عَلَى بَابِنَا فَوَ اللَّهِ مَا نَقُولُ بِأَهْوَائِنَا وَ لَا نَقُولُ بِرَأْيِنَا وَ لَا نَقُولُ إِلَّا مَا قَالَ رَبُّنَا.


7. It is narrated to us by Muhammad Bin Haroun, from Abu Al Hassan Musa, from Musa Bin Al Qasim, from Ali Bin Al Numan, from Muhammad Bin Shureyh who said, ‘Abu Abdullah (a.s.) said to me: ‘If Allah had not Obligated our (a.s.) Wilayah, and our (a.s.) cordiality, and our (a.s.) kinship, we (a.s.) would not enter you (in our (a.s.) houses), nor pause you at our (a.s.) doors. By Allah ! We (a.s.) are not speaking by our (a.s.) whims, nor are we (a.s.) speaking by our (a.s.) opinions, nor are we (a.s.) speaking except what our (a.s.) Lord Said’’.




حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ عَنْبَسَةَ قَالَ: سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنْ مَسْأَلَةٍ فَأَجَابَهُ فِيهَا فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ إِنْ كَانَ كَذَا وَ كَذَا مَا كَانَ‏ الْقَوْلُ فِيهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ مَهْمَا أَجَبْتُكَ فِيهِ لِشَيْ‏ءٍ فَهُوَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص لَسْنَا نَقُولُ بِرَأْيِنَا مِنْ شَيْ‏ءٍ.


8. It is narrated to us by Ibrahim Bin Hashim, from Yahya Bin Abi Imran, from Yunus, from Anbasa who said, ‘A man asked Abu Abdullah (a.s.) about an issue, and he (a.s.) answered regarding it. The man said, ‘If it was such and such, what would your (a.s.) word had been regarding it?’ He (a.s.) said to him: ‘Shh no! Whenever I (a.s.) answer you regarding something, so it is from Rasool-Allah (saww). We (a.s.) don’t speak by our (a.s.) opinions of anything’’.




حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ ع أَنَّهُ قَالَ: إِنَّا عَلَى بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّنَا بَيَّنَهَا لِنَبِيِّهِ فَبَيَّنَهَا نَبِيُّهُ لَنَا فَلَوْ لَا ذَلِكَ كُنَّا كَهَؤُلَاءِ النَّاسِ.


9. It is narrated to us by Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Al Husayn Bin Saeed, from Fyzeyl Bin Yasaar, ‘We (a.s.) are upon an explanation from our (a.s.) Lord . He Explained it to His Prophet (saww), and His Prophet (saww) explained it to us (a.s.). Had it not been that, we (a.s.) be like these (other) people’’.




حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‏ لَوْ لَا أَنَّ اللَّهَ فَرَضَ طَاعَتَنَا وَ وَلَايَتَنَا وَ أَمَرَ مَوَدَّتَنَا مَا أَوْقَفْنَاكُمْ عَلَى أَبْوَابِنَا وَ لَا أَدْخَلْنَاكُمْ بُيُوتَنَا إِنَّا وَ اللَّهِ مَا نَقُولُ بِأَهْوَائِنَا وَ لَا نَقُولُ بِرَأْيِنَا وَ لَا نَقُولُ إِلَّا مَا قَالَ رَبُّنَا وَ أُصُولٌ عِنْدَنَا نَكْنِزُهَا كَمَا يَكْنِزُ هَؤُلَاءِ ذَهَبَهُمْ وَ فِضَّتَهُمْ.


10. It is narrated to us by Muhammad Bin Ismail, from Ali Bin Al Hakam, from Fuzeyl Bin Usman, from Muhammad Bin Shureyh who said, ‘Abu Abdullah (a.s.) said: ‘If Allah had not Obligated our (a.s.) obedience, and our (a.s.) Wilayah, and Commanded our (a.s.) cordiality, we (a.s.) would not pause you at our (a.s.) doors, nor would we (a.s.) enter you all into our (a.s.) houses. By Allah ! We (a.s.) are not speaking by our (a.s.) whims, nor are we (a.s.) speaking by our (a.s.) opinions, nor are we (a.s.) speaking except what our (a.s.) Lord Said, and principles are with us (a.s.). We (a.s.) treasure these just as they are treasuring their gold and their silver’’.
