1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَالْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ جَمِيعاً عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يَأْخُذُ مَضْجَعَهُ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ الْحَمْدُ لله الَّذِي عَلا فَقَهَرَ وَالْحَمْدُ لله الَّذِي بَطَنَ فَخَبَرَ وَالْحَمْدُ لله الَّذِي مَلَكَ فَقَدَرَ وَالْحَمْدُ لله الَّذِي يُحْيِي الْمَوْتَى وَيُمِيتُ الأحْيَاءَ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْ‏ءٍ قَدِيرٌ خَرَجَ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ كَهَيْئَةِ يَوْمَ وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ.

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father and Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad have narrated from Ahmad ibn Ishaq all from Bakr ibn Muhammad from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Whoever at the time of going to bed says three times, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, Who is High, thus, He is Dominant. All praise belongs to Allah, Who is hidden, thus, He knows. All praise belongs to Allah, Who owns, thus. He has measured (all things), all praise belongs to Allah, Who gives life to the dead, and causes the living to die, and He has power over all things,’ he will come out of sins just like the day he was born from his mother.’” 

2ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ رَفَعَهُ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ ال له (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِذَا أَوَى أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَلْيَقُلِ اللهمَّ إِنِّي احْتَبَسْتُ نَفْسِي عِنْدَكَ فَاحْتَبِسْهَا فِي مَحَلِّ رِضْوَانِكَ وَمَغْفِرَتِكَ وَإِنْ رَدَدْتَهَا إِلَى بَدَنِي فَارْدُدْهَا مُؤْمِنَةً عَارِفَةً بِحَقِّ أَوْلِيَائِكَ حَتَّى تَتَوَفَّاهَا عَلَى ذَلِكَ.

2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad in a marfu’ manner from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “When any of you is about to go to your bed you should say, ‘O Lord, I have placed my soul in Your custody, keep it secure in a place that You like, and forgive, and if You return it to my body, return it with belief, and with knowledge of the rights of Your friends until it will die upon such belief.’” 

3ـ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ غَيْرِ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي الْعَلاءِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ عِنْدَ مَنَامِهِ آمَنْتُ بِالله وَكَفَرْتُ بِالطَّاغُوتِ اللهمَّ احْفَظْنِي فِي مَنَامِي وَفِي يَقَظَتِي.

3. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Husayn ibn Muhammad from more than one person from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from Yahya ibn al-‘Ala’ from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “At bedtime he (abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.)) would say, ‘I believe in Allah and reject the devil. O Lord, protect me in my sleep and when I am awake.’” 

4ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ جَمِيلِ بْنِ دَرَّاجٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَرْوَانَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) أَ لا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) يَقُولُ إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ آيَةَ الْكُرْسِيِّ وَيَقُولُ بِسْمِ الله آمَنْتُ بِالله وَكَفَرْتُ بِالطَّاغُوتِ اللهمَّ احْفَظْنِي فِي مَنَامِي وَفِي يَقَظَتِي.

4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Jamil ibn Darraj from Muhammad ibn Marwan who has said the following: “Once Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) said, ‘Should I tell you about what the Messenger of Allah would say when going to his bed?’ I said, ‘Yes, please do so.’ The Imam said, ‘He would read verse 255 of Chapter two and say, “(I begin) in the name of Allah, I believe in Allah, and reject the devil. O Lord, protect me in my sleep and when I am awake.’” 

5ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) يَقُولُ اللهمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الإحْتِلامِ وَمِنْ سُوءِ الأحْلامِ وَأَنْ يَلْعَبَ بِيَ الشَّيْطَانُ فِي الْيَقَظَةِ وَالْمَنَامِ.

5. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn Maymun from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) would say, ‘O Lord, I seek protection with You against wet dreams and bad dreams and from Satan playing with me during my sleep or when awake.’” 

6ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ وَالْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ جَمِيعاً عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ تَسْبِيحُ فَاطِمَةَ الزَّهْرَاءِ (عليها السلام) إِذَا أَخَذْتَ مَضْجَعَكَ فَكَبِّرِ الله أَرْبَعاً وَثَلاثِينَ وَاحْمَدْهُ ثَلاثاً وَثَلاثِينَ وَسَبِّحْهُ ثَلاثاً وَثَلاثِينَ وَتَقْرَأُ آيَةَ الْكُرْسِيِّ وَالْمُعَوِّذَتَيْنِ وَعَشْرَ آيَاتٍ مِنْ أَوَّلِ الصَّافَّاتِ وَعَشْراً مِنْ آخِرِهَا.

6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Muhammad ibn Khalid and al-Husayn ibn Sa’Id all from al-Qasim ibn ‘Urwah from Hisham ibn Salim from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “ Tasbih of Fatimah al-Zahra’ (a.s.) should be said when you are about to go to your bed. It is saying, ‘Allah is greater than can be described, thirty-four times, all praise belongs to Allah, thirty-three times and Allah is free of defects,’ thirty-three times. Recite verse 255 of Chapter two, Chapters 113, 114, ten verses from the beginning of Chapter 37 and ten verses from the end of Chapter 37.’” 

7ـ عَنْهُ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ عَنْ أَخِيهِ أَنَّ شِهَابَ بْنَ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ سَأَلَهُ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) وَقَالَ قُلْ لَهُ إِنَّ امْرَأَةً تُفْزِعُنِي فِي الْمَنَامِ بِاللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ قُلْ لَهُ اجْعَلْ مِسْبَاحاً وَكَبِّرِ الله أَرْبَعاً وَثَلاثِينَ تَكْبِيرَةً وَسَبِّحِ الله ثَلاثاً وَثَلاثِينَ تَسْبِيحَةً وَاحْمَدِ الله ثَلاثاً وَثَلاثِينَ وَقُلْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا الله وَحْدَهُ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَيُمِيتُ وَيُحْيِي بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَلَهُ اخْتِلافُ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْ‏ءٍ قَدِيرٌ عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ.

7. It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa’Id from Fadalah ibn Ayyub from Dawud ibn Farqad from his brother that Shahab ibn ‘Abd Rabbihi asked him to ask help from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.): “Ask the Imam, ‘A woman frightens me in my dream at night.’ The narrator has said that the Imam said, ‘Tell him to take rosary beads ( sabhah ) and say, ‘Allah is greater than can be described, thirty-four times, all praise belongs to Allah, thirty-three times, Allah is free of defects, thirty-three times,’ then say, “No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, alone Who has no partner, to Him belongs the Kingdom, all praise belongs to Him, He gives life, causes death, causes death and gives life, in His hand is all good, for Him is the changing of the night and the day and He has power over all things, ten times.’” 

8ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ وَهْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) أَنَّهُ أَتَاهُ ابْنٌ لَهُ لَيْلَةً فَقَالَ لَهُ يَا أَبَهْ أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَنَامَ فَقَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ قُلْ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا الله وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّداً (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعُوذُ بِعَظَمَةِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِقُدْرَةِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِجَلالِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِسُلْطَانِ الله إِنَّ الله عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْ‏ءٍ قَدِيرٌ وَأَعُوذُ بِعَفْوِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِغُفْرَانِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِرَحْمَةِ الله مِنْ شَرِّ السَّامَّةِ وَالْهَامَّةِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ دَابَّةٍ صَغِيرَةٍ أَوْ كَبِيرَةٍ بِلَيْلٍ أَوْ نَهَارٍ وَمِنْ شَرِّ فَسَقَةِ الْجِنِّ وَالإنْسِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ فَسَقَةِ الْعَرَبِ وَالْعَجَمِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ الصَّوَاعِقِ وَالْبَرَدِ اللهمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ فَيَقُولُ الصَّبِيُّ الطَّيِّبِ عِنْدَ ذِكْرِ النَّبِيِّ الْمُبَارَكِ قَالَ نَعَمْ يَا بُنَيَّ الطَّيِّبِ الْمُبَارَكِ.

8. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Mu’awiyah ibn Wahab who has said the following: “One night the son of Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) came to him and said, ‘Father I want to go to sleep.’ He said son, say, ‘1 testify that no one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, that Muhammad (a.s.) is the servant and messenger of Allah. I seek protection with the greatness of Allah. I seek protection with majesty of Allah, I seek protection with the power of Allah, I seek protection with the glory of Allah, I seek protection with the authority of Allah; He has power over all things. I seek protection with the immunity of Allah, I seek protection with the forgiveness of Allah, I seek protection with the mercy of Allah, against the evil of poisonous reptiles and insects, against the evil of small and large animals during the day or night, against the evil of sinful Jinn and human beings, against the evil of the sinful Arab and non-Arab people, against the evil of lightning and cold. O Lord, grant al-Salat (favors) upon Muhammad, Your servant and messenger.’ Mu’awiyah has said that each time the name of the Holy Prophet was mentioned, the boy kept saying “The noble and blessed,” and asked the Imam, ‘Can I say, “The noble and blessed?”’ The Imam said, ‘Yes, son, “The noble and blessed.’” 

9ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ مُفَضَّلِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ قَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ لا تَبِيتَ لَيْلَةً حَتَّى تَعَوَّذَ بِأَحَدَ عَشَرَ حَرْفاً قُلْتُ أَخْبِرْنِي بِهَا قَالَ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِقُدْرَةِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِجَلالِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِسُلْطَانِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِجَمَالِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِدَفْعِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِمَنْعِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِجَمْعِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِمُلْكِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِوَجْهِ الله وَأَعُوذُ بِرَسُولِ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ وَبَرَأَ وَذَرَأَ وَتَعَوَّذْ بِهِ كُلَّمَا شِئْتَ.

9. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from certain individuals of his people from Mufaddal ibn ‘Umar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) said to me, ‘If you can, do not go to sleep without seeking protection with eleven letters.’ I then asked, ‘What are they?’ The Imam told me to say, ‘I seek protection with the majesty of Allah, I seek protection with the power of Allah, I seek protection with the glory of Allah, I seek protection with the authority of Allah, I seek protection with the beauty of Allah, I seek protection with the defense of Allah, I seek protection with the prevention of Allah, I seek protection with the community of Allah, I seek protection with the possession of Allah, I seek protection with the face of Allah, I seek protection with the Messenger of Allah against the evil of whatever He has created, spread and settled. ’ The Imam said, ‘You may seek protection with these letters whenever you like.’” 

10ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ نَجِيحٍ قَالَ كَانَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ إِذَا أَوَيْتَ إِلَى فِرَاشِكَ فَقُلْ بِسْمِ الله وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِيَ الأيْمَنَ لله عَلَى مِلَّةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَنِيفاً لله مُسْلِماً وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ.

10. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Khalid ibn Najih who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Whenever you are about to sleep in your bed say, “In the name of Allah, I have placed my right side (for Allah) according to the Millah (tradition and culture) of Ibrahim, submitted to the will of Allah and I am not of the pagans.’” 

11ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ النَّضْرِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ جَرَّاحٍ الْمَدَائِنِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِذَا قَامَ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَلْيَقُلْ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّ النَّبِيِّينَ وَإِلَهِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ وَرَبِّ الْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ وَالْحَمْدُ لله الَّذِي يُحْيِي الْمَوْتَى وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْ‏ءٍ قَدِيرٌ يَقُولُ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ صَدَقَ عَبْدِي وَشَكَرَ.

11. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Husayn ibn Sa’Id from al-Nadr ibn Suwayd from al-Qasim ibn Sulayman from Jarrah al-Mada’Ini from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “When one of you wakes up during the night and says, ‘Allah is free of defects, the Lord of the prophets, the Holy Being of the Messengers and the Lord of the suppressed people (‘ A’immah from the family of the Holy Prophet) all praise belongs to Allah, Who gives life to the dead and He has power over all things,’ Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, will say, “My servant has spoken the truth and has thanked Me.’” 

12ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِذَا قُمْتَ بِاللَّيْلِ مِنْ مَنَامِكَ فَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لله الَّذِي رَدَّ عَلَيَّ رُوحِي لأحْمَدَهُ وَأَعْبُدَهُ فَإِذَا سَمِعْتَ صَوْتَ الدِّيكِ فَقُلْ سُبُّوحٌ قُدُّوسٌ رَبُّ الْمَلائِكَةِ وَالرُّوحِ سَبَقَتْ رَحْمَتُكَ غَضَبَكَ لا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ عَمِلْتُ سُوءاً وَظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي فَإِنَّهُ لا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلا أَنْتَ فَإِذَا قُمْتَ فَانْظُرْ فِي آفَاقِ السَّمَاءِ وَقُلِ اللهمَّ لا يُوَارِي مِنْكَ لَيْلٌ دَاجٍ وَلا سَمَاءٌ ذَاتُ أَبْرَاجٍ وَلا أَرْضٌ ذَاتُ مِهَادٍ وَلا ظُلُمَاتٌ بَعْضُهَا فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ وَلا بَحْرٌ لُجِّيٌّ تُدْلِجُ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ الْمُدْلِجِ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ تَعْلَمُ خَائِنَةَ الأعْيُنِ وَمَا تُخْفِي الصُّدُورُ غَارَتِ النُّجُومُ وَنَامَتِ الْعُيُونُ وَأَنْتَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ لا تَأْخُذُكَ سِنَةٌ وَلا نَوْمٌ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّي رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ وَإِلَهِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ وَالْحَمْدُ لله رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ.

12. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Zurara from abu Ja’far (a.s.) who has said the following: “During the night if you wake up say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, who has returned my spirit to me so I can thank Him and worship Him.’ When you hear the voice of a rooster then say, ‘O the Faultless, the Holy, Lord of the angels and the Spirit, Your mercy comes before Your anger and no one deserves to be worshipped except You alone. 1 have committed evil deeds and has wronged myself, please forgive me. No one can forgive sins except You.’ When you stand up look to the horizons and say, ‘O Lord, the dark night is not hidden from You nor is the skies with constellations or the well-stretched earth, or the darknesses one over the other, or the wavy seas or the traveler at night of Your creatures; You know the secret glances of the eyes and what the chests hide. The stars have disappeared, the eyes have gone to sleep and You are the Living the Guardian, slumber cannot overtake You nor sleep. My Lord is free of defects, the Lord of the worlds, and the Holy Being of the messengers; all praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds.’” 

13ـ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ جَمِيعاً عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ قَالَ كَانَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) إِذَا قَامَ آخِرَ اللَّيْلِ يَرْفَعُ صَوْتَهُ حَتَّى يُسْمِعَ أَهْلَ الدَّارِ وَيَقُولُ اللهمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى هَوْلِ الْمُطَّلَعِ وَوَسِّعْ عَلَيَّ ضِيقَ الْمَضْجَعِ وَارْزُقْنِي خَيْرَ مَا قَبْلَ الْمَوْتِ وَارْزُقْنِي خَيْرَ مَا بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ.

13. Abu Ali al-Ash’ari has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar and Muhammad ibn Isma’Il from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan all from Safwan ibn Yahya from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Hajjaj who has said the following: “When Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) toward the end of night was to wake up he would raise his voice so people of the house could hear him, saying, ‘O Lord, support me against the horror of the Day of Judgment, expand for me the congestion of the grave, grant me the best of what is before death and grant me what is best thereafter.’” 

14ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ تَقُولُ إِذَا أَرَدْتَ النَّوْمَ اللهمَّ إِنْ أَمْسَكْتَ نَفْسِي فَارْحَمْهَا وَإِنْ أَرْسَلْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا.

14. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from certain individuals of his people in a marfu ’ manner from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “When you are about to sleep say, ‘O Lord, if You holdback my soul from returning to my body, have mercy on it and if You will allow it to return, please protect it. ’” 

15ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ وَالْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ جَمِيعاً عَنِ النَّضْرِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ مَنْ قَرَأَ قُلْ هُوَ الله أَحَدٌ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ حِينَ يَأْخُذُ مَضْجَعَهُ غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا عَمِلَ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ خَمْسِينَ عَاماً وَقَالَ يَحْيَى فَسَأَلْتُ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَصِيرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ وَقَالَ يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ أَمَا إِنَّكَ إِنْ جَرَّبْتَهُ وَجَدْتَهُ سَدِيداً.

15. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Muhammad ibn Khalid and al-Husayn ibn Sa’Id all from al-Nadr ibn Suwayd from Yahya al-Halabi from abu ‘Usamah who has said the following: “I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Whoever recites Chapter 112 of the Holy Quran one hundred times at the time of going to sleep his deeds of the past fifty years will be forgiven.’ Yahya has said that I asked Sama’a about it and he said that abu Basir narrated to him saying, ‘I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying the same thing and said to me, “O abu Muhammad, if you try it you will find it firmly established.’”” 

16ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ وَأَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ جَمِيعاً عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الأشْعَرِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ قَالَ اللهمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَحْيَا وَبِاسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ فَإِذَا قَامَ مِنْ نَوْمِهِ قَالَ الْحَمْدُ لله الَّذِي أَحْيَانِي بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنِي وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ وَقَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) مَنْ قَرَأَ عِنْدَ مَنَامِهِ آيَةَ الْكُرْسِيِّ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَالآيَةَ الَّتِي فِي آلِ عِمْرَانَ شَهِدَ الله أَنَّهُ لا إِلهَ إِلا هُوَ وَالْمَلائِكَةُ وَآيَةَ السُّخْرَةِ وَآيَةَ السَّجْدَةِ وُكِّلَ بِهِ شَيْطَانَانِ يَحْفَظَانِهِ مِنْ مَرَدَةِ الشَّيَاطِينِ شَاءُوا أَوْ أَبَوْا وَمَعَهُمَا مِنَ الله ثَلاثُونَ مَلَكاً يَحْمَدُونَ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَيُسَبِّحُونَهُ وَيُهَلِّلُونَهُ وَيُكَبِّرُونَهُ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ لَهُ إِلَى أَنْ يَنْتَبِهَ ذَلِكَ الْعَبْدُ مِنْ نَوْمِهِ وَثَوَابُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ.

16. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad and Ahmad ibn Muhammad all from Ja’far ibn Muhammad al-Ash’ari from ibn al-Qaddah from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “When the Messenger of Allah were about to go to his bed he would say, ‘O Lord, in Your name I live and in Your name I will die,’ and when he would wake up he would say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, Who has given me life after causing me to die and before Him is the resurrection.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Whoever recites verse 255 of Chapter two before going to sleep three times, verses 18,19 of Chapter three, verse 54 of Chapter 7 and verses 53-54 of Chapter 41 two devils will be assigned to protect him against the rebellious devils whether they like or dislike it, and with them from Allah there will be thirty angels who praise Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, glorify Him, testify that no one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, say that Allah is greater than can be described, plead before Allah for forgiveness for him until that servant (of Allah) wakes up and he will receive all the reward for it (whatever the angels have said).”’ 

17ـ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْكُوفِيُّ عَنْ حَمْدَانَ الْقَلانِسِيِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ جُذَاعَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ يَقْرَأُ آخِرَ الْكَهْفِ عِنْدَ النَّوْمِ إِلا تَيَقَّظَ فِي السَّاعَةِ الَّتِي يُرِيدُ.

17. Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Kufi has narrated from Hamdan al-Qalanisi from Muhammad ibn al-Walid from Aban from ‘Amir ibn ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Judha’a from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Whoever recites verse 110 of Chapter 18 he will wake up at the hour he wants to wake up.” 

18ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) مَنْ أَرَادَ شَيْئاً مِنْ قِيَامِ اللَّيْلِ وَأَخَذَ مَضْجَعَهُ فَلْيَقُلْ بِسْمِ الله اللهمَّ لا تُؤْمِنِّي مَكْرَكَ وَلا تُنْسِنِي ذِكْرَكَ وَلا تَجْعَلْنِي مِنَ الْغَافِلِينَ أَقُومُ سَاعَةَ كَذَا وَكَذَا إِلا وَكَّلَ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِهِ مَلَكاً يُنَبِّهُهُ تِلْكَ السَّاعَةَ. 

18. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfali from al-Sakuni from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “The Holy Prophet has said, ‘Whoever likes to wake up at night, at the time of going to sleep should say, “(In the name of Allah) O Lord, do not allow me to ignore Your anger, do not allow me to forget speaking of You, do not make me of the careless ones, so I will wake up at such and such hour,” Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, will assign an angel to wake him up at that time.’”
